Hi all I was just wondering how soon after surgery were you able to drive say a few hours in 1 go without feeling too tired?

I'll be having surgery in 3days I'll be needing to drive within 7 days of surgery if I can't find any alternatives.

I'm just curious because i know people talk about being very lethargic and tired post op?

I'll be using automatic so it's pretty easy to drive I drive all the time as it is just curious about being able to stay awake early post surgery!!?

We were both back driving within a day or two of being home. Our Dr told us that once we were off pain meds that we were fine to drive as soon as we felt well enough to do so.

Ok but howmany hours could you drive without feeling tired

Neither of us had the tired or lethargic side effect from surgery. We were out and about all day for errands or fun pretty early on

Everyone’s recovery is different and honestly I feel like attitude has a lot to do with it. Recovering from surgery is not an easy task by any means but If you are positive about your new journey and proactive about getting out there and making the best of it it will seem a lot more tolerable than if you allow the small inconveniences get you down and keep you holed up in bed. Work your plan, and enjoy the process, each day is a day closer to your goal. Enjoy your new life!

I get all that.. I was asking from a safety stand point about ppls energy levels right after surgery... If I could drive or not based on a collective response

Check your insurance. You may not be covered if you have an accident if it was deemed that you were driving sooner than you should be.

Which insurance are you talking about... Lol I've got an old car don't got insurance on it.. not worth it.. I'm just asking practicality wise...

I had my surgery (VGS) on a Monday, cam home the next day & was driving on Thursday.

My doctor told me as long as I'm not on the painkillers, I was good to go.

I only took the meds on the Tuesday I got home. I didn't need them after that.

So you didn't feel tired and worn out so early post op from lack of food etc

No, I had no problem at all. I resumed my life as usual --- minus the eating.

I am 5 and a half weeks post op. Had my surgery on Sept 16. I travelled from the Bahamas to Florida to have my surgery so needless to say I had a rental car which I drove and parked at the hospital. The day I was released I began driving. I did not feel tired at all and I listened to my body which is important. I was also in minimal pain so I was not taking the suggested pain medication every 6 hours. The day I was released I ensured that I did not take any meds until later that evening at the hotel. And I was able to drive every day after that with ease. So I think it was ok for me because I did not drug myself up on pain meds, but like I said it was mainly because I did not need it. Good luck on your surgery.

One week I just had a revision to the rny it’s best to wait just about a week and yes I got tired after about and hour or two it took some time for that to ware off if it’s a shot distance that fine for about and hour but yes you will get tired at least I did I was tired for about a month
