SMH

I’m not a “vet” by any means but I’ve had a lot of success since my surgery and I’ve been on this site for a good 9 months. And I love being a part of this community. So I want to say this first, I posted in Rants & Raves for a reason....

- “I’m 5 day’s post op and it’s not working”. Miracles don’t happen overnight. The amount of people who think that they will wake up from surgery feeling amazing and all their problems solved. SMH
- “I haven’t lost anything in 3-4 months and I’m 6 months post op”. I’m all about helping but I hate when people post about how they aren’t loosing and then don’t offer any information on their diet, exercise, vitamin intake, ect. And half the time they drop off the face of the earth when you ask them.....SMH
- The pre-op diet sucks, that is all. SMH
-“I’m still hungry”. I hate that a common misconception that hunger is going to disappear. It doesn’t happen to everyone. But common sense would tell you that, liquids aren’t filling. Wait until you are on solids again to worry about your hunger levels. SMH

Ok I’m done! Thanks guys for letting me get that off my chest. Some days you just have to rant.

And PS. I know that people don’t always know the stuff I mentioned above, so when I’m not overly irritated by these gross misunderstandings about the process...I’m happy to help!

Rather disappointed in this string of posts. Maybe it’s because I’m new. It just seems to me we all need to be patient and remember what it was like to experience some of these fears. I personally don’t even know what I would want to search for at times so a repeated question or situation that shows up is new for me and I learn from it. Were I wouldn’t even have thought to search the subject.

I'm also sorry you are offended. As mentioned, this is in the Rants and Raves section.

In just about every internet forum though, people get frustrated by having the same questions repeated over and over again. It is just considered good etiquette to look for an answer before you make a new post. This forum is actually kinder and more patient than most!

Also, speaking for myself, I have a low tolerance for drama. There are posts like, "I've lost 30 lbs in two weeks, but I gained a lb today, this surgery didn't work." I am glad to to offer my input, support, experience, advice when someone is legitimately looking for it. But I'm not a good hand holder when someone's expectations are far removed from reality.

The alcohol posts mess with me my program preach 1 year and that’s for safety

See, I guess this is another pet peeve of mine. Every surgeon's program is different. There is no standard program. I agree that alcohol should be avoided because it is liquid calories. But I don't agree at all that it is a safety issue.

That brings me to another pet peeve, scare mongering by surgeons and NUTS. No straws, because you'll swallow air? How do you even do that? And if you do get air in your stomach, you burp, bfd? Carbonation will stretch your sleeve. So these tiny little bubbles are powerful enough to stretch this incredibly tough organ that churns and breaks down all of our food. I'm not a Dr., but I have common sense, I just don't buy it.

People are so sensitive now a day that you get tell them this without a gang of moralist calling you all types of bully.. pathetic! I agree with you 100%
I have a rant, over in my notifications, the very same topic is coming up multple times, not diverse statements on a certain subject just the same one. I enjoy orereading,on Gmail before I look the topic on Bariatric pal, how, many times can I hear "Harriet Jones had a nosebleed" before it becomes irritating. I want to scream "someone please give poor Harriet a tissue,so we can move on!"

Well, for those of us genetically incapable of burping, maybe it could be FATAL! ;) However, I'll risk it. I love my straws!

Then surviving past infancy was a miracle!

I felt the same about your posts on the "Back with a Vengence" thread!

My mom said I was a HORRIBLE baby for just that reason. Guess I'm lucky she didn't leave me on a doorstep somewhere. That, and my habit of waking up at 4 am, which didn't stop until college partying kicked in. She used to leave my bottles on the bottom shelf of the fridge so that I could get them myself (by around 18 months).

Right up there with "when can I eat pizza and ice cream again?"

This thread is amazing! So many laughs

My tolerance for the "I haven't lost in two days, this surgery doesn't work" posts is almost at zero.

I wish there was a formum for mid term WLS patients. As we approach goal or are in early maintenance.

How about Surgery doesn't work, I have gone back to McDonalds, I eat French Fries 3 times a day and twice on Sunday, but now I have a greasy taste in my,mouth , that proves Surgery Doesn't Work

Preach. I'm with you. I really want to help, and get help, but its hard to sift through those kinds of threads.

You guys need to be careful, you're precariously close to being a curmudgeonly vet...
