Surgery Tomorrow, Feeling Anxious About Weird Things

Tomorrow’s the day! I feel like it snuck up on me. I’ve spent the past 2 weeks taking care of my husband that I hardly noticed the time passing.

As I prepare for tomorrow, I can’t help but feel like I am not prepared. Even though I’ve probably purchased more things than necessary...

I have 4 different soups prepared and frozen (I kid you not I’ve had my crockpots going for over 24 hours to make the bone broths and chicken stocks!) enough premier protein for the next several weeks, and several other brands/flavors in case the premier is a bust due to post-surgical changes. I’ve got Greek yogurt a-plenty, fairlife milk and almond milk. And I’ve spent all weekend in the kitchen cooking up meal after meal for the fam so I can have a full week to recover before the mom/wife duties resume...

I’ve got a ton of mini-plates (I have a collection now. I tend to collect oddities. I have a huge collection of coffee mugs, and now my obsession is decorative mini plates. I have issues LOL). I’ve got the spoons, forks, a plethora of different vitamins because damn chewables are gross.

I even purchased a pillow wedge, toilet seat raiser, squatty potty, the colace/miralax/MoM/other various pooping aides...

Despite having what seems like an arsenal of items, I feel so underprepared. I guess my anxiety is rearing it’s head. I don’t feel nervous about the surgery itself, I feel nervous that I’m forgetting something important.

Anyone else feel like they had nonsensical worries before their surgery? The normal worries, complications in surgery, possible injury, or even non succeeding with the tool don’t plague me at all. Instead I’m paranoid that I don’t have enough plates, or that my protein powder will run out (even though realistically I probably have enough to last me a good 3 months straight) or that I won’t be able to take those terrible vitamins.

Slap some advice or tough love on me! I need some help getting out of my own head!

Yay! So glad it’s going well for you! I had a terrible recovery so I’m a bit jealous!

First of All YOU GOT THIS YOU ARE VERY PREPARED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many things you will expect to happen do and some happen you didn't expect........so basically, go with the flow, listen to your surgeon and health providers, YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I was in the hospital I completely shut myself off of TV, any social media etc. I just had time to think and rest and concentrate on me. I was taking care of everyone else right up until my surgery ( 28 days ago ) and just being able to be at the hospital and "listen" to my body and understand what was going on was good. Stay Encouraged, you go this far YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT . Sending Blessings and Best Wishes.

I've been prepping my house like crazy! serious deep cleaning because I envision myself resting after surgery and seeing a dirty corner and wanting to jump up and clean it. And if done a bunch of cook n freeze for my husband and son (20 yrs old) because .. you know.. they have no idea where the kitchen is. duh. they'll be FINE. But we moms have to take care of everyone else. I have chicken broth, turkey broth, various shakes, all waiting for me in the pantry. The only thing I wonder is what to bring to the hospital with me. I have a small list: a book to read, because day time tv stinks, toothbrush and paste, comfy clothes to go home in, my cell phone so I can text my office that I survived, insurance card and ID. what else????

Phone charger, Biotene (you'll have dry mouth afterwards) and slippers to walk around after surgery!

got my crocs.. easy on easy off. Biotene - good idea! it's only a 2 day stay so i'll leave the charger at home.

I had surgery last Monday and would recommend that you bring Chapstick… My lips were literally peeling after three days. Definitely a phone charger. Your own pillows if you can. It’s impossible to get comfortable in a hospital bed but having my Tempur-pedic pillow would’ve made it 1000 times better. Some good friends for support. My husband was with me most the time and my best friend was invaluable. They watched me get sick repeatedly, held my hand and encouraged me the entire time. I could not of done it without them.

Agree with EnrieD 100%! Do exactly as your surgeon says and you will do great. Social media, TV, etc. will be at the bottom of your priority list but taking care of yourself will be number one. Good luck!

Any regrets?

Absolutely none! I’m a week out and feeling great!!! (Minus being allergic to the dermabond and breaking out in an itchy rash over my belly [emoji24])

Thank you!!! I did the same. I brought a book and didn’t turn the tv on once :)

I was sooo over prepared but that’s okay. Definitely the chapstick, your sooooo dehydrated by the time your conscious that everything is chapped.

I'm glad to hear everything has been going well. Hope it keeps up that way.

On a different subject, How has your husband been?

My husband? He’s doing phenomenal! 6 weeks out from sleeve surgery and down 62 pounds!!

That's great to hear.... I did mean that question for Kay to be honest... but again, good that your husband is also doing well.
