  1. 28 days ago I had my sleeve done. After 1 year of getting ready for it, the day finally arrived. My significant other well lets just say he isnt very emotionally intelligent and over the last 13 years I have been with him through 11 medical procedures he needed some were in hospital some were out patient. I always put him first , and took care of him what ever he needed. I am really getting very frustrated I feel he is just in my way of healing now, not physically but mentally and emotionally. He is not emotionally supportive at all, I really am in this all alone. I try to stay positive, I have made a major life change and rather than him having my back he would rather rant and rave with his emotional outbursts. I try to be patient as I know he struggles with some mental health issues. There are just those days when I want to say Seriously do you have any clue what I have just gone through and what I continue to go through. I am so drained when I wake up in the morning,. I need time to just get my head on right. I immediately take care of our Dog, getting her fresh water, food and take her out to do her business. I then try to get my vitamins and meds in me, drink some liquid and take my blood glucose. But then here he comes complaining there is nothing to eat for breakfast...........which translates to he wants his huge hot breakfast eggs, bacon, toast or grits etc which now just the smell makes me ill. If he doesnt get his way then he is just moody and very short tempered all day. So to avoid the constant emotional rollercoaster, i stop what I am doing and make breakfast, I sometimes then forget to take meds or vitamins, it takes me longer to get ready in the morning, not as quick since the surgery as I was before. Yes I know I should kick him to the curb ( and I only stated a mild case ) but financially I cant afford to do that right now, I am really stuck with him. SORRY just needed to say this "out loud " I am just emotionally exhausted from him. Thank you anyone that reads this. I appreciate the listening ear
  2. Well as they say you can find out anything on the Internet. Watched a Sleeve surgery. WOW amazing. I am glad I watched 13 weeks post op. But again WOW amazing. I appreciate even more my Surgeon and the Surgery itself. I am awed by such a Wonderful and Loving God that created me and watches over me. Truly humbled and grateful for the whole experience.

    Caffeine

its the acid in the coffee and the stimulant of the caffeine that is not good for the sleeve. Many Surgeons have different opinions. Mine said 1 year I live in upstate new york. My friend lives in Boston had the Sleeve 2 years ago and her Surgeon said after 2 weeks post op she was ok to have it again

    I feel scared and ashamed...

First of all, Good for you that you are on your way to better health. NO need to be ashamed. I think all of us can name at least 1 thing in our life that we can feel shame over. So YOU are NOT alone. Its ok to feel that emotion, but don't get stuck there. Try your best to focus on better health and feeling great. Being scared is very normal. If you want I will pray for you . I will pray for peace of mind, comfort, a successful surgery and a lifetime of improved health. Remember YOU are NOT alone is this

    What to tell coworkers?

I agree with some others here, you do not owe anyone an explanation. If a coworker asks why will you be out for two weeks you can say. " I have some things I need to take care of" . If they keep pressing for an explanation you can say... Thank you for being concerned, but I am keeping that private right now.
  7. I had my 3 month check up today ( 12 week mark ) . I was hoping to be at 70 lbs loss. I am at 73 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited. Also Nutritionist said ok to eat some summer melon, berries, tomato , cucumber if I feel I can tolerate it. She said introduce one at a time see how I do. So excited to have some fresh fruit again, especially now in the summer. Go back in 12 weeks for my 6 month check up. My Goal for myself is 100 lb loss total.... and get my A1C to 5.5 ok...............I am on my way..........

    12 week results are in

Thank you all for the encouraging words. To : Beautfully Flawed I just got released a month ago to regular exercise ( other than walking ) so I have been trying to swim/ aqua classes 2-3 times a week. My surgeon said " Ok now I dont consider walking exercise anymore cuz you have to walk to live............but to help you get in shape you have to do more so go for it and start swimming again. He is tough in a great way...........doesnt baby you. He really has helped me more than just the surgery
  9. Before the surgery due to also having IBS which really messed with my intestines I literally had a war with eating and digesting food. What was good for diabetes such as fresh fruits and vegetables kicked in my IBS and what calms down IBS like potatoes rice etc isn't great for diabetes. Since the surgery it improved both diseases to the point of where I am now. Plus your body goes through a hormonal change with the surgery and most diabetics have improved results. Some folks even leave the hospital with no more. Diabetic meds. Have your husband speak to a surgeon. Best wishes .
  10. I for one cant look at the cost overall but I can tell you one thing. I was diabetic for 12 years. My Insulin cost $3,000 for 90 day supply. I couldn't afford that so I cut back to ration it made it last 5 months. That was NOT good for me as you can imagine. LONG Story short. Since the surgery my diabetes is soooooooooooo much better I am just about at the point where they are going to declare me non diabetic. that you cannot put a price on . I would say. For the longevity of your health in years to come with it being better and not worse I would say what you will pay will far be worth it rather than consequences from a disease from being over weight

    12 week follow up

Surgery was 4/23 it was 20 lbs 1 month prior to surgery and as of June 21 at my Primary Doctor visit it was 62 lbs total, so I am hoping for the 70. Good luck at your appointment as well. 55 lbs is great !!! How are you feeling over all ??
  12. I have my 12 week post op follow up tomorrow. I cant wait to see the Surgeon. He always has great advice and actually better nutrition tips than even the nutritionist His last tip to me was , A great source of protein and fiber, you can have as a snack and NO Carbs. Edamame Beans. I have had them in food dishes but I never ate them from splitting open the pod . Had some this week, they were great. I am hoping to have made it to 70 + lb loss tomorrow. That would be great. I am pretty close so hopefully YES Have a great day all
  13. Hello everyone. I have been out of the loop for a while. Much success I am grateful for. 12 week mark since surgery lost about 65 lbs. My diabetes is almost non-existent. I am in a bit of a rut lately . Feeling some blues I cant seem to shake. I think the reality of it being summer and not eating certain things or doing certain things finally got the best of me. I am trying to not let it get to me, but today is a bad day.
  14. PRE -OP is hard for sure. YOU GOT THIS hang in there. IF you can go do something to distract you perhaps go to a park or place where folks are coming and going and people watch. Or go to the library for a while and dive into a good book, STOP watching/using TV and Social Media its all constant food advertising. POST OP I dont know about others BUT there were NO cravings NO Hunger. Your body is relearning itself and your brain is saying OH that is New how about this.........or hmmm not much sugar or carbs in this body ...how about that................THE WORST WILL BE OVER BEFORE YOU KNOW IT and I mean this you will literally one day wake up and say OH MY GOD I FEEL FANTASTIC Stay FOCUSED on better health, BETTER days ahead. we are in your corner. YOU CAN DO THIS

Getting some encouraging notes was very nice and means so much to me. I dont get to see my friends very much these days and online folks who have gone through this surgery and GET IT there comments are appreciated

    Whirlwind... 35 days out!

I am glad you are taking care of yourself. It is good that you are at least saying out loud you hope you are ready for the surgery, that shows you are trying to do what you need to. Sorry to hear of your miscarriage . I will keep you in my prayers. Best of Health moving forward.
  17. I can only tolerate Stevia. Everything sugar free seems to be made with Sucralose ( splenda ) I get violently ill. This has made my journey more difficult as I was limited in the protein shake options ( I used a Plant Based Protein Powder from Six Starr and added Fairlife skim milk . I cannot have sugarfee jello or popsicles . I have recommendations for others who may have similar issues. I did a lot of trial and error. Feel free to inquire
  18. For those who have been on the journey of the WLS for a while now, do you find yourself having any snacks, or just sticking to just a meal plan. I was wondering about some healthy snacks that have protein in them. Example Quest makes a baked chip with 22 grams of protein. Thought it may be something if I am in a social setting or the occasional movie etc. May be a better option than fat or carb heavy snacks that are often offered/served your thoughts ???
  19. Two weeks after surgery I thought oh my goodness what did I just do. 4 weeks later now BEST THING I EVER DID I wont lie, its hard work and each day isn't always sunshine and roses, BUT stay with it, do exactly what they tell you and before you know it you will feel so much better and its in a way you never felt before. Not feeling constantly hungry , not craving carbs or sweets and coming off 90% of my medication only 1 month after was my biggest victory. Best of Health to you, no pun intended but if you gut is telling you go for it..........then listen to your gut
  20. My Surgeon said it best . I will do this surgery and its like going to Home Depot and buying a Hammer to fix a wall, This surgery is the Hammer , but if you decide to sit and stare at the wall and not get up and use the hammer we will be nowhere. He said if you are ready to permanently be healthy for good and your body reset to a new healthy you then take the Hammer and get to work this is work. He said I don't believe in dieting, I believe in giving people tools to help them be at their optimum health. I have lost close to 60 lbs I have another 80 to go. I am 52. I may end up with sagging skin but there are ways to fix that be it exercise or plastic surgery or both. But there is no fixing up and down weight loss and gain your whole life. LOOK at the benefits of being healthy for life , Don't worry about the skin

    Snacks YES OR NO

OH GOODNESS I didn't mean to spark such a Diabetes uproar. OK I am diabetic I am 52 year old female who has been diabetic since I was 40. Since the Surgery ( 1 month ago ) I have been able to reduce by Insulin to less than 40 units a day ( from over 180 prior ). I was asking about snacks as I didnt want to incorporate them too soon and was asking what others were doing. I have 2 outings next month to go to and I wanted to be prepared with maybe bringing something of my own I could snack on. etc I appreciate everyone's input thanks Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend .

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

My Surgery Date was April 23 so exactly 1 month ago today. For Vitamins they recommended 1x each day and evening Flintstone complete chewables until I see the surgeon June 5th . How are things going so far ?? My advice so far, follow exactly what they tell you and give thing time give your body time to adjust, each of us is different and although time may tell you that you should be at a certain place in the process you body may not be ready. I should be on fork tender protein starting this week, but I am still on ground texture/soft food. So although its frustrating I am just giving my body the time it needs to do what it needs to get healthy. Best of luck on your journey.
  25. two week post op I lost nothing, the third week here it was 30 lb loss. I had a lot of fluid in my from the surgery , the Surgeon recommended no weighing yourself at least into the 3rd week, I see why. i agree with the other replies, stay hydrated and I dont know if this will help but my surgeon said, 6 weeks post op you are at risk of bursting/rupturing that new pouch. Dont eat until you feel full, just have 1/2 cup of food at a time and see how you do. He recommended more smaller amount of food during the entire day rather than getting too full at one time and stressing the pouch. Best of Luck ...keep us posted how you are doing
