Blurred vision & major dry mouth

Recommended Posts

Is it normal to have blurred vision and dry mouth maybe from the anesthesia still wearing off or the new meds for nausea? I know one of the side effects from one of the nausea meds can cause that but when does it wear off?

I am two days post op.

Dry mouth is fairly common right after surgery and is also a common side effect of a lot of meds - you just can't get enough Fluid in yet to help resolve it. But, I would absolutely talk to your doctor about the blurry vision. I had some vision changes from the rapid weight loss but that wasn't until like 3 months out....2 days out would concern me.

Dehydration and anesthetic can both cause blurred vision. Ask for mouth swabs, biotene spray, etc. And sip every couple of minutes all day. It sucks but it goes away after the first week. (Then you get farting, belching, and loud digestive noises and a host of other fun things lol)

My vision was blurry too! Went away after a couple weeks. One nurse thought it was the nausea medicine I was taking, but I'm not sure that's true.

Nookie, you need to get in touch with your surgeon's office right away to talk about why you're getting dehydrated and find a solution ASAP. What you are describing is not normal. Dehydration is DANGEROUS...don't mess around. Best wishes.

The nausea patch I had behind my ear contributed to the blurred vision as well as all the anesthesia. After about 4 days that went away. The dry mouth was common from all the anesthesia too. Once I got on top of drinking my Water a half an ounce per a timer every five minutes plus using Biotene over the counter for dry mouth that helped with that problem. It will get better. Just takes a few days after surgery to get all the meds out of your system from going under. Hang in there!

The scopolamine patch gives you wicked dry mouth. I’ve never had dry mouth like that before. I felt like I had been chewing on cotton balls in the desert for three days straight. Nothing helped. I was so thankful when it wore off.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
