  • Recovery room after surgery was rough. I threw up a couple times which caused me to pee the bed. How mortifying. I was groggy and could not wake up. Slept for 12 hours. Once I woke up, I felt great.

I am a couple days shy of 2 weeks post op and everything is really starting to get better......EXCEPT i have had gout throughout my feet and knees for about a week now. I am taking gout meds and getting my fluids in for the most part but i cannot get rid of it! It just moves from place to place. It has been excruciating and i cant get any real walks in. I dont know what to do about it but i feel like i am cursed and there is no end in sight. Very frustrated.?

I'm hoping to hear back from my ins. & get this scheduled before the end of November. Do you have to do two week of clear liquids before surgery?

I didn't because my BMI was lower than 40. I just had one day of clear liquids

Yes I'd like to know what's involved in pre-op testing as well!

Pre op is just blood draw, talking to the nurse about the procedure, going over medications to take the day of, getting a weight and taking a urine test for pregnancy

I wonder if the gout is from the amount of protein we need to take in? Though the protein isn't from like steak it's whey. Hmmm. Feel better!!!

So glad we have each other!
My surgery is 11/14, tomorrow! So nervous about the surgery, my children, work, and what life will be like afterwards. From NY/NJ area.

Had a NSV today: didn't need a seatbelt extender on my flight this morning!

OK...one premier protein drink is 11 oz and 30 grams protein. I think that I can fit about half that in at a time. So drinking two of these a day (4 meals) will give me 60 grams protein. The bare minimum. I don't think we are supposed to be drinking protein drinks ALL the time. Like more than MEALS. Right? So I shouldn't be sipping on protein drinks during the day but more of water type items? Broth? I'm really confused because I just can't get it all in.

I really think it will depend on your surgeon. My sister had her surgery in August this year, but was originally scheduled in July, but she was postponed due to an upper respiratory infection. But I would check with your surgeon too. I really hope you feel better asap!
