April 9, 20179 yr My surgeon requires a cardiologist & pulmonologist medical clearance before surgery. I have both appts set in the next week and a half. I don't know what to expect. Anyone done these? Thanks.
April 9, 20179 yr I had the pulmonary tests done last Wednesday the 5 and the cardiology this Wednesday the 12. Pulmonary wasn't too bad until the closed the door while I was in this little booth that looked like an old time phone booth. But that was the only part I had any problems with
April 11, 20179 yr as far as Cardiology, i only had an EKG and met with the cardiologist. It went well, but the cardiologist tried to talk me into becoming a vegan, lol...I listened to his little speech (45 minutes) because I wanted my clearance, haha....Not becoming a vegan.... Hahaha
April 11, 20179 yr Did they do any invasive testing? Thanks!I just had an EKG and chest x-ray; neither of them seemed invasive to me. What DID strike me as invasive was the stool sample I had to provide, yuck.
April 12, 20179 yr Author I had EKG, Chest Xray at PCP's office yesterday. Started the stool sample yesterday and yes, it is invasive and disgusting! Not sure what else the Cardiologist and Pulmonology will be doing.

These conditions can include infection (such as from parasites, viruses, or bacteria), poor nutrient absorption, or cancer."
April 13, 20179 yr My dr told me they test stool for H Pylori bacteria, as this is sometimes present in the stomach. If you're positive for it, you have to go on antibiotics and it delays surgery 2 weeks.

Anyone done these? Thanks.I just had the breathing test, it was simple the clipped my nose and had me take deep breaths, bliw out, simple stuff like that. It took maybe 10 min. I have my appt with the cardiologist May 25.

If you're positive for it, you have to go on antibiotics and it delays surgery 2 weeks.I had to drink some special tart liquid, and 15 minutes later blow into bag. It was no biggie but I had the test a month ago so that if they started me on antibiotics it wouldn't have interfered with surgery timing. I was negative tho. April 14, 20179 yr Author I had the breathing test too. I am waiting on the results. I hope I am negative or they will have to push off my surgery.
April 14, 20179 yr I just had a whole host of tests today... ekg, echocardiogram, bone density, spirometer, abdominal ultrasound and they took 9 vials of blood. Now I have to do a 24 hour urine sample. Ugh!
April 19, 20179 yr Well, just sharing a little update. I have my surgery on May 2. I went to the hospital for my pre-admission testing last week. Pretty simple stuff. Lots of questions, blood work, EKG and chest X-ray. Today I had my final appointment with the surgeon. He lead a group presentation for 8 of us on all the things to expect, diet, vitamins, surgery day, complications, etc. for about an hour. We did a bunch of paperwork and took a quiz to show we actually read it and didn't just sign it without looking. Then we each had our individual appointment with him for final review and questions. Tomorrow starts my liver reduction diet, basically 4 shakes a day (I should have started yesterday) so I went to the store and got all the stuff I need (basically mellow and sugar free ice pops). I have to say, it really started to feel real when he shook my hand and said he would see me in two weeks. Today is my birthday and I feel like it is right to make this the kickoff point. I had a piece of birthday cake today and it was sort of symbolic as a goodbye to old and hello to new. I see my PCP next Tuesday and then I'm all set. Oh, except for the bowel prep (I didn't have to do a stool sample). The bowel prep I start at noon the day before surgery and basically just on clear liquids. I'm working that day so a bit nervous about when that will kick in. Eek.
