TMI Menstruation

Soo......I thought I had my timing close enough to perfect but now fear with surgery on June 21s that I will be starting/in midst of my period. I usually have cramps and just wondering if anyone else had this happen. Was it terrible or does it just make the need for heating pad and drugs seem even more reasonable?

My hospital would not have allowed heating pads due to fire hazard and burn risk. However they did have chemical heat packs that they gave me for some back pain I had due to bed positioning.

I had mine a week before surgery and then got another one 2 days after... But I was fine

I started on my second day post-op. Not sure what it is that makes that common, but I was warned by my NUT that I needed to take pads to the hospital. I thought she was crazy...

My period started during my surgery. The cramps were definitely amplified that day. I'd brought two heating pads with me, so that I could have one behind my back and one on the lower part of my stomach (it didn't interfere with the incisions). I asked for more pain medicine, and it helped to zap a lot of the pain. I also asked for medicine to help me sleep because hormonal fluctuations often cause temporary insomnia for me. Beyond that I really didn't have much pain or discomfort. By the second day I was fine.

I recommend bringing heating pads and a small extension cord so you can plug them in without needing to unplug anything else already in the room.

Thank you to everyone! Was there any restriction on using tampon during surgery?

I could not wear a tampon or pad during the actual surgery. It was gross.

Hoo! This is the answer I was looking for.. I’m going to surgery the 20th and it’s going to be my first day of period.. so I guess I’m changing dates of surgery :0 Thanks!

Judy, don't change dates. Hospital staff doesn't care one whit about your period. It's something they see routinely, and I promise they don't care.
