Hi everyone,

I am 2 days post-op for gastric bypass and the pain from gas is really bad. No pain meds seem to work. What can I do? Any advice? I have been walking and moving but that has not helped me as yet. I wasn't able to release gas, my intestine seem still asleep. Help please

Gas pains! Wow! those felt like labor pains!

And according to the nurse gas pains after this surgery are like the last pains of being in labor.

I walked alot! A LOT!

If I tried laying down the pain would get A LOT worse. I remember crying from the deep stabbing gas pains. I used to do this (this might help) not laying down sit on a chair instead ( a chair was better to me than my bed) and at times stand up for a bit. Move around as much as you can.

Walk as much as you can handle.... the more you walk the quicker the gas pain will go...

I has really bad gas pain when i had my band years ago.... when i was sleeved i forced myself to walk as soon as i could.... literally every hour i would do a couple of laps of the hospital floor and i had none this time...

Thank you, i have been crying a lot too for the stabbing pain. They are so bad. I have been walking up and down my apartment. God, i really hope this pain is over soon. I valled the doctor who suggested dulcolax suppository. I will try that too. Anything for this to go away

Try a heating pad. That helped some. Also try the "child's pose" (I think it's called) from yoga. Basically kneel down on your knees then stretch out your arms on the floor with your stomach pressed against your knees. That will sometimes help to release the gas. Lastly, have you tried gas-x - strips or chewables. They definitely help.

My gas pain was bad in my shoulders. Heating pad helped a lot. And at night when I got in bed I would lay flat and rock back and forth to get the gas moving while I slept. Oh and I wasn't able to sleep flat for almost a week after surgery.

All of my gas stayed in my belly. I used an ice pack on my belly and they put lidocaine straps on there too which actually seemed to help. Keep walking, burplease whenever you feel the need, and pray for that first fart. Mine did not happen until late the second day but it was glorious, lol! After that the gas starts to expel more often and now, morning of day three, I have no gas pain at all. Sitting on the toilet actually helps loosen up your bowels so you can pass gas more easily--I would just sit there for 10 minutes to let the gas work it's way through and eventually it worked. Just don'the force it or you will regret it.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
