    Impacted Stool

Miralax helped me last week! And it's gentle so it won't give you painful "bathroom episodes". Only downside is because it is more gentle it may take a day or 2 to work... Good Luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Bigmoe99.... I was on constant anti-inflamatories pre op for my back both from a car accident in September followed by a broken tailbone in Feb. I was told by the hospital to stop taking them 1 week pre op but 2 days without them and I was a wreck. Terrible headache, could barely walk... So my dr said I could keep taking them until 24 hrs pre op. I was so worried about post op knowing I wouldn't be able to take them anymore. But it was seriously like a miracle, I didn't even notice until almost a week post op that I hadn't had the first problem without them! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I had the same pain. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and it has almost completely gone away. My dr said its muscle healing... Good luck! And GO BLUE! 〽️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

making me feel bad about the surgery

What everyone else has said it true, and I would also like to remind you of that awesome little red button IG has that says BLOCK! Talk shit = get blocked! I have a separate IG for my weight loss stuff too and if it's not encouraging it gets blocked! There's enough bullshit and nay sayers in this world and you shouldn't have time for them! What's you IG user name? I'd love to blow up your comments with praise and encouragement! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Emotions post op

I am almost 3 weeks post op and I know exactly how you feel. I was so excited to move to puréed foods from liquids but had some pain and my dr moved me back to liquids. That actually happened twice. I felt so discouraged and had the EXACT SAME feelings... Will I get my Protein and liquids in? What did I do to myself? Will I ever be able to live socially normal again? I was borderline depressed, which is CRAZY! A friend of mine (actually my "Surgery Sister") suggested I keep a journal of how I'm feeling every day, good and bad. I track what I eat anyways so journaling my feelings will help to see if certain foods upset my tummy or trigger certain hormones/feelings. And then I can look back on it later to see how far I've come too! I can promise you, it DOES get better!! Listen to your body and do what it tells you. If liquids are easier then do liquids. Go slow. Just bc others can progress at a certain pace doesn't mean you have to. Everyone's journey is different. I've moved myself back to liquids for a day or so on my own in the last week bc of bad cramping... And it's ok bc I knew that's what my body needed. Our bodies are like babies just learning how to digest and process food again and when you think about it that way it all makes sense! 2 more things... #1 Unflavored protein has been my crutch to help me meet my protein goals. nectar by Syntrax is what I use. And the fluids will get better. I try to drink at least 8oz before I eat Breakfast and although it sounds simple, the days I do I usually hit my Water goal... #2 About the exhaustion. Most of us were eating THOUSANDS of calories a day and are now maybe getting in 400-500. That's a crazy drop that you have to let your body get used to. And on top of your body still healing from surgery, it's hard to fuel our still overweight bodies with such few calories. So it's normal for your body to take a few weeks to figure out how to do that. Keep it up... You're doing great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I hate to say it but I couldn't wear a bra for about 8-9 days bc to me every time I tried it felt like the incision was being stretched and it hurt REALLY bad. The good news is that the little incision that you're talking about is tiny bc all it's used for it to put the instrument that retracts your liver (at least that's what my dr said)... So it heals the fastest. I'm less than 3 weeks post op and not only is the incision healed but there isn't even a scar! I went from no bra for 8-9 days back to regular bras... Although they were already too big! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I am going through the exact same thing... Had surgery 5/10, lost 20lbs from pre op day of 5/2 until about 5/21 and then started slowing, almost to a stop and I was CONVINCED that the surgery didn't work. Like my dr didn't really change anything, just made incisions, let me lay there for a few hours then sewed me back up and told my family I was done! So... #1 I stopped weighing myself every day. I'll weigh once a week and that's about it bc I don't think it's mentally healthy to start obsessing over that number on the scale this early in the game. #2 As everyone's said, it's completely normal to stall week 3-4. And it makes sense. Not only are we healing but most of us go from 2,000+ calories/day to maybe 500-600. So it's a very drastic change that our bodies are trying to deal with and wonder if it's the new norm. Not to mention it's hard to fuel our heavier bodies with such a drastic cut in calories... #3 I'm trying to focus on the small NSVs I've had, for instance the disappearance of my second chin lol We just have to stay positive and trust the process because clearly, it DOES work! Message me if you ever need some encouragement!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I am 7 days out today and experiencing the same thing. Pain on my left side almost like a pulled muscle and a burning sensation around my belly button. All of my incisions look fine and I have my first post op Thursday but maybe I should email/call dr office tomorrow! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I'm one week post op and my happy moment is that I haven't had the first back pain since surgery despite not having any anti-inflammatories that I was taking daily before surgery!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain after surgery

I will add to what everyone else has said.. WALK ASAP! The more gas you can get out while the good hospital meds are in your system the better! I've been pretty sore but it's to be expected after major abdominal surgery. Also I had 2 hernias repaired which my surgeon said would be where most of my pain would come from. I'm 1 week post op and other than just being tired and sore I'm doing pretty good! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Awful gas pain

My gas pain was bad in my shoulders. Heating pad helped a lot. And at night when I got in bed I would lay flat and rock back and forth to get the gas moving while I slept. Oh and I wasn't able to sleep flat for almost a week after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. I am pre op but currently taking a medication called Duexis for lingering pain I have from breaking my tailbone a few months ago. It is an NSAID combined with famotadine so it is intended for extended use and the Famotadine is supposed to help reduce the risk of ulcers. I haven't discussed continuing to use it with my surgeon, it's on my list of pre-op question for Monday but it may be something you could look into. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    May bypass group!

LadyClair I just got my date this morning and I'm May 10 as well!!! I have my pre op apt on Monday. Luckily no liquid diet for me but I'm getting anxious and excited!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hi Surgery Buddy! I had my pre-op appointment today with the nurse and nutritionist and for lab work. My appointment with the Dr is also on Monday! I'm super excited, first day on liquid diet - so far so good. How long does your doctor keep you off work? Mine is 3 wks. I just can't even picture what I will look like by Christmas, maybe I actually won't mind having my picture taken! Isn't it fun to think about all the things that will be different? Oh my gosh I'm so excited I can't stand it!! My goal weight is 140 so I need to lose about 115 lbs. My dr said he expects me to lose all of that and possibly more which I can't really even fathom! I feel super lucky that I don't have to do the pre op liquid diet. And they didn't give me a specified amount of time to stay out of work. The lady I talked to today to schedule my surgery said 2 weeks but since I don't have a physically strenuous job I may be ready to go back after 1 week... But that if my job isn't being supportive he'd sign Leave papers for however long I wanted lol Where are you located? I'm in Atlanta. So many questions!!! 25. Hello All! I am somewhat new here... I've been reading posts in a few forums for a while but haven't posted yet. (Long time reader first time poster! Lol) I am maybe halfway through the process... I have all of my insurance requirements met and hopefully my surgeon's office will be able to submit for approval early this week. I've read all sorts of stories about insurance approvals so I'm crossing my fingers that I'm a lucky one who gets a quick approval! (I have Anthem BCBS Ga, anyone have any experience with them?) Is there anyone else in the North Atlanta area out there that's starting or mid way through the process? I have a great support system but I'd love to have someone who's going through the process at the same time!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
