After sitting here all day attempting to drink in fluids and trying to think of the positives out of this, i then start getting 'buyers remorse' the thoughts started coming to me that i will never be able to eat the things i used to and that i wont be able to live like a normal person my age. I have been questioning all day if this was the right decision (too late now). I question if i gave in too soon or if i didn't try hard enough to lose it the old fashion way. as i lay here in pain i keep thinking why did i do this to myself why didnt i just stay the way i was and enjoy food...anyone else go through this? any thoughts?

Awww Brandon stay strong and positive. I haven't had my surgery just yet; however, I'm certain you've made the BEST decision of your life. I've sooooo many posts where people have been in your shoes around the same time. It gets better. Sorry I can't speak from experience, but keep reading. Read the success stories and the before and after pics; great motivation. Just stay strong and positive Brandon, you'll be fine in a few short days. Keep waking and keep sipping. ????

I went through the exact same thing. I can honestly say it does pass. I am 4 months out and I do not regret this decision. I am so happy ! The only thing that got me through that tough period was Netflix! Hang in there Brandon, you can do this.

I had several medical problems prior to surgery. These included high blood pressure, diabetes, severe acid reflux, sleep apnea, frequent urination, profuse sweating. My goal for surgery was to heal my body. Within days after the operation, all those conditions went into remission and stayed there. I am 27 months post-op. There are trade-offs in life. So I accept my decision.

There were many issues and problems after surgery. It took me 6 months before those problems were resolved. This was when I reached my happy state. So give it a little time, things will get better.

One of the changes caused by the surgery was that my stamina (ability to perform physical labor) improved dramatically. Last year I moved 100,000 pounds of gravel and 50,000 pounds of concrete landscaping blocks by hand. I am 66 years old and I now have the stamina that I had when I was in my 30's.

Brandon, I had my rny 8 weeks ago Friday. I went though the exact same emotions. I cried a lot, doubted my decision, and wondered when I would be normal again. Thank God for my family and friends who were so supportive and reassuring during that time. Right after surgery, your hormones are all out of whack, your body is still dealing with the effects of anesthesia, all while you're physically recovering from a major surgery. If you're like me, food was always my comfort and it was so hard to not be able to turn to food during that time. However, as you progress through the food stages, you will feel so much better! You'll be surprised how good puréed food can be. :-)

it does help seeing the pounds start to fall off of me, and i know it will all be better once i can actually start to eat some, thank you for all your support it really helps. food was always my comfort and thats why it sucks that i can no longer partake in it.

Aww, I feel like I'm "too late" in responding, but I'll go ahead and echo what the other "posters" have said. I didn't have very severe emotions, but I did wonder what I'd just done to myself & if I'd ever feel "right" again. Honestly, 9 months out I really don't even want all the junk food that was such a big part of my life before RNY. Once the weight started coming off, that was my real motivation to keep going, I've worked so hard to get where I am, I don't want to sabotage myself. And yep.. I can eat "normal" food now- even stuff that's not on my list like a bite of a real cookie or pie...I just have to modify my other choices that day to keep myself accountable for choosing to eat that bite of whatever the treat was. Hang in there- it WILL get better

I haven't had my surgery yet, but from people I've talked to and from everything I've read, "buyer's remorse" in the first month post-op is very common. Try to keep your focus on all the reasons you made the decision for WLS in the first place, and keep thinking about being much thinner, the clothes you'll be able to wear, and the things you'll be able to do. In fact, use some of your time to start writing down a list of everything you want to do that you weren't able to do before. Skydiving? Scuba Diving? Taking flying lessons? Sit in a tight theater and not rub elbows and arms with the people flanking you? Jogging up a flight of stairs without getting winded? Bending over to tie your shoes without sucking in your gut and holding your breath?

Keep focusing on the positives, and stay strong - you'll get through this period, and it'll only get better!

Brandon, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I went through a weeping period about a week after surgery. It was accompanied by panic attacks during the night. My PCP told me that all of this was largely due to the anesthesia and heavy drugs from surgery. Now two weeks out and in stage 3, I feel much better. Hang in there. It will get better.

I started feeling the same thing but then I went and stepped on the scale and saw I've already lost 7 pounds only 3 days after surgery. Huge victory considering I've been sitting on my butt and putzing around the house for exercise.

Those thoughts will pass, I enjoy ALL good, just in smaller portions. AND I am within 8 pounds of my goal and wearing a size 4. I feel great and I tell every one I meet.
