I'm 10 days post-op and saw my surgeon yesterday. He wants me to get up to 80 grams of protein and at least 800 calories.

I agree with @@BLERDgirl, if you are confused call your surgeon or NUT. My Protein goal is 100 grams.

The base goal I was given by my doctor was minimum of 60 gms of Protein and 64 ounces of fluids. For many that works out to 3 shakes a day plus sipping Water in between. For most people this is a goal you have to work up to. I think it took me a week or 2. At 10mths post-op I aim for a minimum of 75gms and generally get between 75 - 100gms.

My understanding is the body cannot digest more than 30gms of protein per hour. This shouldn't be a problem if you are eating/drinking slowly.

@@BLERDgirl is right, you cannot absorb more than 20g of Protein at a time so pace it throughout the day. I also was told 60g of protein a day. You can do more but you also need room for veggies and Fiber or you will get constipated. Good luck!
