Surgery at 56?

I'm finally thinking seriously about having WLS - gastric sleeve in particular. Worry that I am too old to have this done - I'm 56. I'd love to hear from other 50 somethings who had surgery in their 50's. What was your experience like? Anyone use Medicare? Am I crazy to consider this at my age?

I am 57 and am 7 mos. post op.Weight loss of 78 lbs. I feel great!! Surgery was a breeze, tired a lot for the first few months. That has resolved now.I have so much more energy!,but you must be faithful to taking your vitamins everyday! My knees don't bother me anymore.I can move so much faster. Can't wait to reach my goal!! Good luck and don't put it off

I'm going to be 60 in September and am 9 months pat op. 63lbs down and 20 to go to goal. I walk about 5 miles every morning with my dogs before I get on with my chores and working for my husband. All the bits of my anatomy that were falling to bits before surgery are still falling to bits but they don't hurt nearly so much due to the fact that they are not carrying around the weight of about 8 newborn babies!!!!!!! Scary eh! I've got muscles now instead of bags of lard. Yay! I'm wearing clothes that I like instead of tents and wearing vertiginous (well, they are for an old git) wedges. I'm loving life.

Hi I am 56 and will be having Gastric sleeve surgery on 4/29 in Tijuana. I can't tell you how excited I am.

This is going to change your life. Just stay true to the plan. My grandkids call me Big Moma now the laugh and say skinny moma. But I will always be big Moma. Be blessed ,CG

Had my sleeve at 55- best decision ever. I'm almost 2 years out. I test as physically fit for my age and being a female. I went from a morbidly obese couch potato to fit and active!

I am having gastric sleeve on April 25(2days before my 59th birthday). I want to feel good in my 60s and years after that. I have teen age grandaughters and they have been my biggest supporters. I am doing this for me. I will be self pay, but I know it will be worth it.
