Just found out that if I want to keep my job, I need to relocate to Kansas City, MO sometime before 3Q2015. Since my husband runs 2 successful businesses of his own PLUS his own full-time job, relocation is not an option. I am not the breadwinner.

I want a carton of cigarettes and a tub of Ben and Jerry's.

Talk me off this ledge.

I was so excited to see another pound gone this morning. Now I just want to curl up in a ball and cry.

Dang! Not knowing your circumstances, I would suggest taking the time you have left at this job to scale back on living expenses and focus on you and weight loss journey. Embrace the unemployment if you are able. Your new body and new found confidence will likely open doors for you that you never thought possible. My wish for you is that this current crisis is, in hindsight, the most awesome thing to ever happen to you and your family. If you have succumbed to ice cream, that's okay. Put the spoon down and run hot water into the carton. Keep being good to you. Congrats on the pound lost!!

Change in life occurs everyday, it is how one adapts to the change that makes each of us better. Change is not a bad thing it is a chance to regroup and become stronger.

Take this time to look for a new job and with a positive outlook you find a new and better job.

i know employment, job market is terrible but............

look for another job

my "hero" Dr. Phil says something like "if you don't have a job, your job is looking and getting a new job"

i'm sure that must be hard, impossible?? whatever

but hubby is successful here - you can't move

easier said than done, but you gotta move forward

don't revert to old habits with wanting 2 things that could kill you (ice cream & smoking)

why would you go back to those things

you are successfully working on your weight loss

you stopped smoking pre-op

both above are wonderful and show your strength

now, look down that pretend ledge

do you really want to go overboard???

imagine what a mess you would make falling to the sidewalk

all that blood and gush/yeach

your poor hubby will work for hours cleaning your mess

ok, that all being said

you know i love you

only shouting at you "softly"

can you hear me?

throw the thoughts of ice cream & cigs out the window

concentrate on your weight loss

30 lbs DOWN. DOWN and dirty

What you want and what you need are two very different things. Even if you indulge in both things, tomorrow you'll still be in the exact same position regarding your job. Then what will you do? This sucks momentarily but there is likely a better opportunity on the horizon for you, and it's certainly not at the bottom of a B&Js ice cream container. Breathe, cry if you have to but leave that stuff alone.

Worst case: I'd pick the ice cream over the cigarettes. The ice cream will probably give you a nice case of the bubble guts anyway (great aversion therapy), but the cigarrettes won't be so kind; they'll keep calling your name. Just don't do it. Things will be ok.

Getting philosophical here . . . things seem to happen for a reason. You will probably look back one day and think this was the best thing that ever happened to you.

Example: almost 10 years ago now, my husband lost his job after I had quit mine to stay home with the kids. We had a 2 month old and a 1 year old and a 6 year old when he lost the job. He was devastated and very stressed. His confidence was shaken. Solution . . . I went back to work while he started his own business. 10 years later, he is a huge success, I can work part time at my own small business so I can be with the kids. He loves his work. The kids have advantages they never would have before. His schedule is much more flexible so he can actually spend time with the family.

His getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to us.

You are lucky that you have a partner who can help while you get back on your feet. This is an opportunity, not a setback!!!!!

Thanks all! I went to get my nails done. Had another cry when I got home and parked myself behind my sewing machine for a while . Had a Greek yogurt for dinner. It is going to be tough but we'll pull through. Hopefully I will hear by Monday when my transition date is so that I can plan.

Always remember doors close for a reason...............Another door will open!! This is such a true statement! Reflect from inside yourself and you will find the answer! You have already started a new life maybe this is just a part of it. I truly wish

you the very best. This is just one of many test in life we have to conqueror. food, cigarettes, alcohol have always been a the go to relief. This is the part that you have to figure out how to handle without using one of these vises. I know you will figure it out!

Now is time to turn the corner. What is around that corner? Should you advance a little ways and see if it is safe? Should you turn around, run back and hide? There are many unseen things around this corner, some good, some not so good, perhaps, but the ADVENTURE is there. Are you ready for it? Ready or not, here it comes! And ice cream and cigarettes are NOT the tickets on get on this ride.

I was made redundant one year ago, with one day warning. I had been in that job for 12 years and I always thought it would be the end of the world if I lost my job. After two weeks I started to stress that I wouldn't find another job.

As it turns out, my skills and experience are quite an asset and I got offered several jobs. Got the perfect one... they went broke ten months later and I was out of a job again. This time, I felt much better about it and actually enjoyed the few weeks I had off, before taking on a temp role. That finished just before Christmas, and I'm currently enjoying our summer holiday. When we get home, I plan to have a few more weeks off until the kids go back to school, then I will start looking.

It made me realise that my job is not my life. There are others out there, and losing one really isn't the end of the world, like I always thought it would be.

You're lucky you have some time to plan, and save some money before this happens, at least.

I can't speak to the job/relocation situation, but I can say that if you add the stress and negativity of making bad personal choices to the list, your situation will be even more unbearable. Instead, try using weight loss success as your "silver lining" of positivity while the rest of your stuff figures itself out. Easier to say than to do, I know, but worth the effort.

JenWith, are you part of law firm staff moving to KC? I ask because that was just in news today. I'm a lawyer in KC. I know it's tough to relocate, but for what it's worth, KC is a great town. Very welcoming. I moved here 7 years ago. I'd be happy to offer any advice on your move. Regarding sleeve, there are great support groups at KC Bariatric Center and St. Luke's Hospital.

@@p1Sz - LOL! I AM! I'm part of their IT department. They are taking all of the Corporate department and moving to KC. My IT group is lumped into that move. Unfortunately, my husband runs two sucessful personal businesses and he has his own full time job. He's also an only child with aging parents (who are our neighbors; fun times). We're not going anywhere. I'm still feeling down with this news and change but I'm handling things okay.

Cool. Well, hang in there. And good luck! I think all these things are easier when you're healthy, and you made a great choice in that department.
