Leak Test

Just curious when are you supposed to have leak test? Is this before you leave hospital? At 2 week check up? Kinda confused on this.

My leak test was during surgery. I don't know if I'll have another one or not.

  • @@EllieMae They make you drink a Barium sulfate drink (disgusting ) While they X-ray your swallows to your stomach. The drink makes a leak show up if you have one.

  • My surgeon did 3 leak tests.... 1) was done in surgery. The anesthesiologist filled my sleeve with air as the surgeon submerged my sleeve in saline, looking for bubbles. 2) was the drain I had for 3

You'll find every Dr is different. Some will do one before you leave the hospital, some a week out, mine did one 30 days out.

Mine did it in the first few hours after surgery before I was able to have any liquids.

I've seen many go for a leak test first thing the day after surgery (24 hours).

My surgeon did mines the next morning after surgery.

My doctor did the leak test before the surgery was over.

Mine did it the day after surgery and then again at my two week check up! I HATE that test!!!!! So gross!!!!

I do not remember having a leak test. I know it's a test for a leaky sleeve, but what exactly do they do?

Mine was done the day after surgery. Until my surgeon got the result I was not allowed to have anything by mouth.

I had a leak test during surgery and 1 24 hours after. I agree about the barium. The test 24 hours after was rough. Swollen stomach and barium do not go well together.

My surgeon will do one in the OR and then again 24 hours later

Mine was at my 1 week post-op check. It was with 2 different solutions, one thinner than the other. Both were quite vile But it was cool to watch them go down!
