Just curious when are you supposed to have leak test? Is this before you leave hospital? At 2 week check up? Kinda confused on this.

I don't recall ever having one and I'm 9 months out.

Mine was before I left the hospital. It was pretty cool. I got to watch the monitor while that nasty tasting liquid travelled through my system.

I was sleeved 2 days ago and I didn't have one. :-/

Mine was the day after surgery. Before you're allowed to drink anything

It's possible to have had the leak test without drinking anything or being aware of it. I read the surgery report e-mailed to me and found that they pushed the stapled edge into liquid and see if there are any bubbles. I never had to drink anything.

My surgeon did 3 leak tests.... 1) was done in surgery. The anesthesiologist filled my sleeve with air as the surgeon submerged my sleeve in saline, looking for bubbles. 2) was the drain I had for 3 days. Both internal Bleeding and leakage can be assessed by what the fluid coming out of the drain looks like. 3) was a barium swallow fluoroscopy 3 days postop (after pulling the drain) I had to swallow a radio opaque fluid while we watching on the display. It was very cool to watch it go down my esophagus, through my sleeve and into my intestines. This procedure also shows the shape and size of the sleeve as well as any leaks, strictures and GI transit time.

My dr does a leak check during surgery. Then a follow up check the next morning with the barium. All done before one can have any liquid. Prior to the barium leak check I was allowed one ounce ice chips only every hour.
