Did your cycles become regular post op?

Recommended Posts

I have PCOS, and my cycles have never, ever been regular in the 17 years I've been having periods. For those of you who were irregular pre op, how long did it take for you to become more regular post op? Or did you never become regular? I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this question or not...

Prior to the operation, my cycles were extremely irregular. I would have a period once every 2 - 3 months. What used to scare me was that i would have PMS symptoms (sore breasts, bloated, fact breaking out in pimples, moody, etc) but I wouldn't bleed. I weighed about 245 lbs and I'm 5'6 which a medium frame, so it didn't look or feel good.

Anyway, I got sleeved in December and my periods started to become regular around February. It's now October and I have a period every month.

I was going to ask a similar question! I've had an irregular cycle since starting at the age of 10...I thought I had PCOS and in my 20's a doctor ordered an ultrasound and since no cysts were seen that was the end of the investigation. In my early 30's my period was regular for a while, but sometime in 2013 I stopped having periods. I still had spotting and cramping etc. I got worried and was sent to an OB/GYN who listened to my history and present complaint. He diagnosed me with PCOS, telling me an normal ultrasound does not rule it out. He suggested a Mirena IUD, which was put in last November. There were no real changes after that. This week, after over a year of no periods, a month post-op, my period has returned...I'm thinking due to weight loss?

I was at 295 at my heaviest and also nevef had normal periods. They didn't come regularly until I was under 200 lbs (197 actually) and my second regular cycle I got pregnant! I'm assuming once I get back under 200 again it will normal out again...but this time I'm on birth control! :)

Yes! I had PCOS and thought I was pre-menopausal before surgery. My surgery was July 1st, started my period July 22nd, and have been like clockwork ever since. I'm not sure if I'm thrilled or want to cry!

Thanks for your responses, guys! My husband is not terribly thrilled at the prospect of condoms for 18 months, so I was hoping my periods would regulate so I can use the rhythm method. Having done a few years of infertility treatments, I know what to look for so I know when to avoid or block. haha Thanks!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
