How often do you see the dr. after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon the day after surgery to have my drain removed, my PCP at two weeks post-op for some blood work and then my surgeon and NUT at 6 weeks out. My next appt isn't until December (6 months out) for an EGD and follow up.

I was just wondering how often everyone else sees their doctors.

I am thinking of making another appt with my PCP to check my blood #s, as I was borderline diabetic before surgery and am still on meds for it and now that I am down 50lbs, I am wondering if I still need to be taking it.

If you want confirmation, I would ask how long you should stop the meds before you have labs to prove that you don't need them. Definitely, I would call the surgeon's office! I had diabetes for4 years, with the damage to the pancreatic islet cells that goes along with it. My surgeon said that my diabetes would go away after 3 - 4 days! My blood sugars went down significantly after just 2 days. You haven't even had that damage. You sure don't want to be in a position in which your blood sugar is too low.

To answer you other question, I was sleeved on Sept.26th. I see my doctor for my 1st followup Oct. 7th.

Kudos to you for having the surgery BEFORE you were finally diabetic. You should have no problems with diabetes.

I saw the surgeon in his office twice pre-op.

While in the hospital, I saw him before surgery (in surgical holding) and the following day. I also saw his PA the day after surgery.

I saw the surgeon and the PA 10 days after surgery.

Then saw the PA 5 weeks after surgery.

My next appointment will be 3 months post-op with the PA.

Thereafter, I will see my surgeon and/or the PA quarterly throughout the first year post-op.

I know I will be expected to see him regularly thereafter as well, but I don't yet know the frequency. He expects to see all his patients forevermore post-op. He says research shows that the more follow-up WLS patients have, the more successful they are (as a group).

In the hospital after surgery, and then 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 months, and a year- and I have to keep coming back once a year to check in.

Mine says something similar. He will eventually see me 1x/year. He said that the folks that do the best come to the support group every month. It helps them keep with the program.

I saw mine the day I left the hospital 2 days after surgery. Spoke to him on her phone for my 2 week post op and he said then see you in 3 months. So that means I should be getting a call to schedule am apt sometime this month. I can email him and my NUT any time and have done so a few times.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
