Throwing up?

I'm 6 weeks post op and have generally been tolerating things well however I have had a tendency to get things stuck. In the past 48 hours anything starchy I eat is coming back up. I have been able to keep a few meals down and all liquids stay down. I do tend not to wait a full half hour before I eat to stop drinking :( and I have used straws. I know I need to stop. If anyone has any experience with getting stuck or throwing up I'd like to hear it. I know this is all a learning process. I'm seeing the doctor on Thursday to discuss having my first fill and right now I'm wondering if I could tolerate my band being smaller considering I'm getting stuck and such as is...

I was so tight postOp it was SIX MONTHS before my first fill.

And it is crucial you learn how to eat without getting stuck OR getting NPB/slimes/throwing up.

In a stricter sense, we are not "throwing up" if there is no stomach contents/acid/enzymes/etc.

It took about 90 days to be able to actually nibble a soda cracker in 5 minutes without getting the slimes....

SO you for sure need to learn what is TOO tight for you. Discuss issues fully with your provider and seek tips on what phase of postOp care you are in.

Cheers on your journey.

Thanks it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. I will try my best to stop the moment I feel I may be getting stuck and be sure to take tinier bites and chew more. I'll be seeing my surgeon next week to discuss further. I'm still unfilled.

I am almost 3 months out and I have never gotten stuck. I hope to never either... I need to really pay attention to the size of bites of food I take, about a nickel size. And I make sure food is real mushy before I swallow it. If foods do not become mushy after chewing for half a minute, I spit it out. That usually means that certain food is not going to work for me. You might want to look over your after care instructions on what to do after a stuck episode. It might mean liquids for 24. Good luck. These are all new eating habits that we all just need to work on. I still have to remind myself to put the fork down between bites and wait a minute.

That putting down of the utensil was so hard for me -- I didn't want to let go of my implement, lol. I practiced with a clock to help me with that behavior (shovel, shovel). And chewing to Smitherines......

There are some foods that don't work well for me and I know now not to keep at it -- if it's not going to work, it's not going to.

Good luck with all -- you will find your mode. Your surgeon is your partner in this so be frank about what's happening. I was "tight" after my surgery for a few weeks and thought I would be a person who never needed a fill. But then my appetite returned just about the time of the appointment to assess for my first fill. Now I've had several. I think for me it was all related to the inflammation.

I know putting down a fork is so hard! All new eating habits! I definitely know there is inflammation from repeat stuck episodes. Thanks for your responses.

That's great!

You are on your way; we all went through this (well, me anyway!)....STILL even now at almost a year have to remind myself to slow down, put the utensil down, etc. You are doing GREAT!

I can not eat any type of bread. It has always gotten stuck and I have had my band for 10years.

Banded 2009 and still get stuck.

Got my first fill of 4CCs and so far so good...only stuck once...going for second fill on 11/13 and trying to journal everything and get more active. This is certainly a journey.
