I have been on a 12 month stall journey. I have tried 3 different nutritionalists and many exercise and food trackers. The doctors have tried many tests with no answers. I actually regained weight! Frustrating. I was a self pay in 2012 and paid 25k for the surgery and never lost more than 30 pounds total, I needed to lose 60-70 lbs. Now I'm going to Mexico for a resleeve surgery. Does anyone have any experience with being resleeved, dr. Almanza or the hospital HMN?

Hannah you are not a dope, it's just getting educated! I failed with the band for many reasons but one was not understanding this concept. Dense protein is stuff like beef jerky, roast chicken, sandwich meat etc. Even Greek yogurts might fit this category. Food with minimal additives that fill your tummy and give a satisfying feeling. You can get a lot of protein via the bars but all that carby fillers that makes them taste good is also what makes them sliders that go down way to easy and make you want more.

Why not opt for RNY once and for all?

Can you RNY after sleeve surgery?

My surgeon and nut had me on strictly meat and low carb veggies only besides my low carb protein shakes and water until I reached goal. After that I slowly introduced fruit and natural carbs like potatoes and whole wheat pasta and rice. I still only eat carbs occasionally but I eat fruit daily!

I'm needing this wake up call. I too have been in a 1 yr stall. And play around with10lbs. I need to get away from protein bars. They're the devil for me. I guess I need to be more focused.

I am so glad that I had the sleeve revision! I now know what restriction really feels like. It isn't fun but I have lost 18 pounds in 23 days. Not bad! There are so many foods that I can't eat, which is for the best. Also, best of all, I am truly not hungry . I am very optimistic that this time I will be successful in dropping at least 50 pounds more to get to my target weight. Then hopefully I'll maintain forever. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Almanza because of the sketchy medical practices but I do have to say that this sleeve is done well.

Can you RNY after sleeve surgery?

Yes, the sleeve was originally intended as a stopgap for severely obese people who weren't healthy enough for RNY. Later, they found that many people didn't need RNY because the sleeve worked so well and it became a treatment of it's own. If it isn't effective, RNY is still an option.
