Should I try Protein Shakes Now or Just Wait?

Hi Everyone, I have a question for those of you who are in the pre-op diet stage or beyond it. My surgery date is Sept. 3rd and I I have ordered the Syntrax and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury sample packs (thanks to this forum's advice). So now these packages are sitting in my kitchen and they do NOT look very appealing :) What would you advise - should I start trying them now so I know what I like or are they going to be so bad that it will make me dread the pre-op phase even more?! When did you start drinking them - ahead of time or only when you HAD to?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • I also picked up the nutri-bullet, the really good blender. It was on sale at Kohls, and I had a 30% coupon. So it was expensive, but it blends everything down to liquid perfection!! Even the Protei

I would start experimenting with shakes - I probably wouldn't do one every day at this point because you still have 3-4 months before surgery. Maybe a couple of times a week - you may find that you l

I'm so glad u got the Nutribullet!! Yay! It's so easy to use and I absolutely love mine, the other thing I have done is the carnation instant Breakfast, NO SUGAR ADDED, and a banana with fat free milk and a few ice cubes in the bullet. It was pretty good! I also have the premier Protein shakes and I like them too.

I will def try that Girl Scout cookie one! Sounds DELISH!!!

I did use the bullet the way they tell u too, 50% spinach, 50% fruit and fill to Water line. It was pretty good! It's an acquired taste haha but I got it down.

:)

I'd like to add I LOVE this site, and am so glad they have an app for it :)

Where are all of you from?

I'm right outside philly, pa!!

KSTUZ, I'm right outside Boston . . . really love this site too - my date isn't until September so I'm thinking about the surgery all the time and reading posts from here but not yet doing much yet. Can't wait to get started!! Hope you get your date soon!!

Right up the coast! Awesome. I feel this May be my new Facebook. Haha it's more interesting than it nowadays! I am getting pretty depressed waiting for my date. This site seems to help me. Maybe just keep my hopes up that I will have ahold of myself and my life for the first time ever. I'm nervous excited and scared! And I'm confusing the u know what out of my husband. I'm crazy up and down emotionally. And I haven't even had it yet!! I just need hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. And here helps. So thank you to all that share. :)

Hello All,

My name is Marie I'm new to all this. Haven't receive a date yet have 3 workshops left before I can get this thing done. Looking like an August surgery. Thanks for sharing all your stories. This site has been very informative.

Sorry posted this in wrong spot.

Hi Marie! I'm new too, I had to complete 3 nutrionalist appts for 3 months. My last one is next Friday!! Hang in there it will be here before you know it!!! :)

I am post op and living on pinterest for ideas now. you can add yummy stuff like greek yogurt and sugar free Jello powder. experiment with it. Can't wait for next week to try cottage cheese and scrambled eggs, and I doubt I've ever eaten cottage cheese but hey,new lifestyle

Thanks everyone for the advice of trying the protein shakes out now before surgery is great idea. I am planning to go to GNC and try different ones. I think they sell them individually. Is it a good idea to get the powder also.

My nutritionist said it's ok to try different powders prior but to not go crazy buying different flavors because chanced are that your taste buds may change a bit after surgery.

A lot if sites offer sample packs so u don't have to buy the whole container. Unjury has a sample pack for 21, 28 total with tax and shipping!

U get 2 packets of each kind, a little shaker bottle and a thermometer, I thought it was pretty reasonable. So go for places that have samples!! :)

I have tried a few as well the pure Protein, Premier Protein and EAS and Isopure zero carb (this one I don't like). I wanted to make sure I had a back up or two if I didn't like them after surgery. I also have a sample unjury coming on Monday just in time before my surgery Wednesday. Good luck to you all.

I'm from Fremont, CA.

I drank them presurgery. I refused to buy large tubs of powder because I knew my tastes would change post surgery. I did get a lot of sample packets though and I sampled a lot just to get used to making shakes and drinking them. Post surgery I don't like the taste of a lot of RTD or powder shakes, but I still love ABOUT TIME Protein powder and Atkins Protein Shakes.

I'm 6 weeks post op & really sick of protein shakes. I'm not able to eat enough to get in all my protein. I bought protein shakes & bars from GNC called Lean Mean. I aso froze my shakes in ice pop molds & made Fudgsicle's and banana cream pie sickles. So much easier to eat them then to drink the shakes.
