Hiatal Hernia Repair

Has anyone had a hiatal hernia repair the same time as their sleeve surgery? Does it increase your recovery time? Anything I should be aware of?

I had it done. Didn't even know it was done till the next day. It makes the larger incision a little more sore but no big deal.

I have a really bad hernia, mine broke through my stomach lining, and split my somach muscle in half, my bowels, and intestines just keep growing, this is the reason for my sleeve, but my surgeon told me he wants to wait a year to do mine, so there's plenty of room to put everything back to normal. Good luck!

I also didn't known I had one until the day after surgery when I overheard one of the nurses telling the other nurse at shift change!

I had a very uneventful, rather quick recovery so I don't think it had much impact. Probably just a bit more pain when "eating" (ie drinking) for a few weeks...sharp pain right under my ribcage/solar plexus area.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

Had mine out also with surgery. No issues either.

I was sleeved on April 16 during that time my surgeon repaired my hiatal hernia. Friday I woke up with neck pain - like I had slept wrong. The pain became worse each day until I saw my surgeon the following Wednesday. He said my neck pain was from the hiatal hernia repair. I started pain meds again and started feeling better on Saturday. Everything is good now.
