My dr told me that right after surgery a straw would hold more volume than my stomach can handle. I'm now 6 weeks post-op and I tried using a straw over the weekend and boy did it hurt. I don't know if it was the additional air you ingest when using a straw or the bigger "gulp" and not sipping. I won't try that again for a LONG time.....

I use a straw just about everyday. (Started at 12 weeks out). No problems at all.

I've been using a straw since about 6 months out with no problems. Actually happened by accident - went somewhere and got a "to-go cup" of Water and they stuck a straw in and I realized that I was using the straw and I could drink a lot more water that way. Been doing it ever since.

I can drink a lot more with a straw. I use it whenever I can.
