May 2014 Sleevers

I finally got my insurance approval this week and my surgery is scheduled for May 20. If seems SO far away but hoping the time will fly by. I've been trying to adapt my diet to more like it will need to be post-op but find myself eating horribly about once a week. I think it's the food funerals starting. I did really well during the week and had lost 2 pounds this week and then last night after work ate whatever I wanted (it wasn't good). Are others going they this same struggle?

Would love to find people who are anxiously awaiting their May surgery dates and be here to provide support for each other as we start this journey to change our lives!

Awesome yours is the 7th too?!

Hi Susan - I'm a May 12-er also. Good luck, from Dallas area.

Just had a pre-surgery pulmonary appointment. That spawned two more appointments....*sigh*....1 - A sleep study and 2 - some further breathing testing.

At least with all of the pre-op checks I feel like I will have been evaluated well prior to heading into surgery.

Hello, my surgery date is May 12. Just waiting on insurance approval.

Hello to you both - Susan and Sean. I'm a May 12th sleever too and am in the Dallas area. Surgeon is Dr. Kim, though. Just started the liquid diet today - no solids, just BariEssentials shakes and non-calorie liquids. The shakes are making me so queasy, though, and I'm constantly on the verge of being sick. I've done some research online and it seems as though most pre-surgery diets permit solids. Are y'all on pure liquids? Lauren

Arrived in Eagle Pass TX. Surgery tomorrow. I am so ready!!!!!

Best of luck with your surgery today. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Today is the first day of my 3 week liquid diet. I'm tired and gassy. Is that normal on the first day?

I just started my liquid diet today and I'm also really tired. Not so much gassy as nauseated. Yuck! Hard to watch the kids eat pizza for dinner tonight, too!

Just had mine yesterday!

I have my preop with my surgeon today and it's less than 2 weeks til surgery. Did that keep me away from Girl Scout Cookies? No it did not.

I have to say what makes me nervous is not the procedure itself but anticipating post op pain, post op feelings if deprivation and concerns that I won't be able to handle the post op diet. Anyone else feel like that?

Also I'm obsessing on Vitamins. What brand, how many milligrams, what type.... I wish I could be like you guys and clean house with anxiety instead of getting stuck on details.

If you did your research it was textbook for me almost everything everyone said about their post Op happened to me the pain, the fluids each day you feel better than the day before. I was so busy at work couldn't get my house cleaned now I'm working on the cleaning. Good luck to you God bless you!

Tomorrow for me, I gotta be there at 8! I'm nervous, and excited!

Oh, sweetie, seriously, everyone feels that obsessive and anxious, so you're not alone. As far as post-op pain goes, you should be pretty well medicated and not feel much, if any discomfort while in the hospital. I was a little uncomfortable my first night home (I think it was the transition from the morphine to the at-home codeine), but after you start getting used to figuring out what to do when your stomach grumbles this way, or does this or that, you're golden.

As far as handling the post-op diet goes, well, if you're like me, you won't care so much about anything other than trying to make your protein and fluid goals once you get there. Now that's not saying that you won't still crave food and dream about it (omg), when you wake up, you'll know that you really can't deviate from your plan, and won't be nearly as hard to make the healthy choice then as it was before with those GS cookies.

I sat down with my nutritionist to go over the vitamin plan beforehand, and how it would fit into my food plan. There are also other meds that you will inevitably have to take--some sort of antacid, allergy meds, any others you are on chronically that you can't set aside yet, and yes, you do need a plan for those. It helped me to put it down on paper.

I hope that things work out well for you, and I send you lots of hugs!!
