March 17, 201412 yr i've had it done before and don't even remember feeling it! Don't worry it will be smooth sailing I hope for you
March 17, 201412 yr Mine is scheduled for next Wednesday - I was told that with light anesthesia and some spray antiseptic on the back of the throat it is should be an easy 5 minute procedure.
March 17, 201412 yr I had the EGD before surgery as one of my pre op tests. I swear this was the easiest test of all of them that i had. After they gave me the anesthesia in my IV...... I don't remember a thing. The next thing I know is that I'm awake and never felt a thing. I had no side effects whatsoever but a little bit of a scratchy throat. it was a breeze. The only thing you have to remember is to NOT eat or drink anything after midnight before the surgery and to stick to the diet that they tell you to be on the day before the procedure. I am so glad that i had it done as that is when he discovered that i had a small hiatal hernia which he was able to repair during the sleeve gastrectomy. Good Luck!!!!!
March 17, 201412 yr I was anxious too but it was a breeze. It felt a little weird waking up but other than that my throat was sore the rest of the day and I was tired. I went home and took a 3 hr nap.
March 18, 201412 yr It was a piece of cake! Here is my experience: http://www.vsgguy.info/pre-op/endoscopy/
March 20, 201412 yr I had mine last Friday.. They have you gargle with a numbing agent and then give you a shot in your iv.. I don't remember a single thing.. I was nervous too, but it was for nothing. Simplest test ever!
March 23, 201412 yr Author Had my EGD everyone was right! I went to sleep and a hour later I was leaving ! The only thing that hurt was the IV that left a huge blue bruise . I slept most of the day. I think everyone has to have one so the dr can get a sneak peak of what she is working with, and test for H pylori bacteria .
March 23, 201412 yr Why do they put you to sleep for this? Are you really asleep, or do you just get amnesia?
March 23, 201412 yr Why do they put you to sleep for this? Are you really asleep, or do you just get amnesia?. They put you to sleep. You don't feel a thing- easy peasy!
March 24, 201412 yr Hm, well, I'll be curious to see how they do it here in Germany. It doesn't seem like something for which anesthesia is really necessary; it's probably just nicer that way, and the Germans tend to take the rout of least intervention in such cases (ie. wisdom tooth removal with just novocain, pretty much never prescribing pain killers stronger than ibuprofen, etc.).
March 24, 201412 yr Why do they put you to sleep for this? Are you really asleep, or do you just get amnesia? Cause if you were awake, you really think you'd let someone shove a camera down your throat?? I know I wouldn't!
March 24, 201412 yr I was knocked out, All I remember is seeing the surgeon walk into the room then fade to black. A slightly sore throat was the only side effect.
Worried about swallowing that scope !!! Was this a painful procedure ??
