The 5:2 Diet

Im having trouble losing this last 25 lbs and have been thinking of trying the 5:2 diet.

I know many of you have been using this diet as a tool. ive searched the forum and didnt get any hits. isnt there a support group for this topic? I cant find it anymore.

Questions:

Are you currently on this diet? (or have you been?)

What has your experience with it been like?

Any links you can recommend?

What do i need to know?

  • Gotta add my experience... I was in a stall for nearly two years; no matter what I ate, how I moved or any diet I could not shift a pound. Disheartened and fed up didn't come close to how I felt. I w

  • See my signature line for my 5:2 loss..... I eat around 12-1500 on feast days (depending on exercise) and 550 or so on the two fast days (mon and ths for me) I had a 22 pound regain, lost 5 of that, s

Is there a book with this information? I'm more of a book reader.

There are a bunch of links at the beginning of this thread completely explaining 5:2. You can also google it and it is well explained on the internet. I do believe there is also a book that can be purchased - check Amazon.

5:2 is very simple as it is just rules about restricting calories 2 days a week and eating "normally" the other 5.

OK troops! That long awaited "New Year" is upon us. Time to get back on the wagon and ride it to victory!!!! Again!!!!! (We know we can do it) :) I got up and wrote down all I plan to eat today, because I can't trust myself to "wing it" at this point (or hardly ever it seems). It is fast day. I balk, but know I need to start the new year right, or it could become just another of the same string of days out of control. I know I'm not alone. Good luck girls! You know what you have to do....

Okay, you are NOT alone; but, at family traveling and tomorrow is my birthday so I'm going to give myself til Monday and then hit it!

I have totally abandoned 5:2 pretty much except for a few good days earlier in December so I'm anticipating my body will be in revolt! Lol

Got to, though! Love my size 8 s and the 10s (and a few 12s) I'm wearing right now are not making me happy! ????. But besides all that I know, health wise, I need to be diligent. Too much work and sweat had gone into this process for me to sabotage myself now.

I'm in too - like Georgia, it will be next week; either Mon or Tues will be my starting point... got some extra xmas pounds on top of the over the bounce, so this is now very real for me too! Stupid thing is though, my clothes still fit?

I am also gonna get my head around exercise again too. As I look back over the last year, I have become lazy and lack motivation... this has to change! I want to be strong again

Hi Everyone, I have had a lot of life changes and I need to get back to taking care of me...so I'm back and I have not been on the 5:2 plan and have found that I've gained lbs from my 142.5 lb low. I am now at 156 lbs since the holidays. I can now eat so much more, not because I'm hungry, but because it tastes good. Gotta stop that. So I have been trying to get back to the 5:2 and each day I sabotage myself. So today I am focusing on eating just protein, decreasing portion sizes and eating no sugar. I am a sugar addict and I need to get this under control.

In the past i found everyone on here was very helpful so I'm back....I love this group and I have missed everyone. Thank you for reading and letting me share....

Dorrie..our maintenance stats are similar. I want to get back to 140-145 range but I am floating in the upper 150s. Still alot better than 300# weight class I started at, and I start the year NOT loathing myself or the small regain but thankful I have the tools and support to get back on track.

I don't have a timeframe but my goal is to see 140 in 2015, doing it while getting fitter and maintaining good health

Sheryl I think I'm going to shoot for 140 lbs too. I am so thankful for the good hearted people in this group. It helps and I really need the support too. Time to kick butt and get back on track...

I am also ready to begin the 5:2, ladies. I am up about 15 pounds from my lowest. I had two plastic procedures in 2014 that resulted in full body contouring and the removal of 12 pounds of skin and fat, yet my weight never changed! Some of it's still swelling post plastics, some is extra water from stopping a diuretic I had been on, and some of it is from the extra calories I had over the holidays because I "needed" it for healing. Pretty sure I didn't need quite all of those calories. I'm hoping to finally get to goal this year!

Here's to a our collective, continued success in 2015!

MichiganChic you've got this. Glad to hear you had plastics. Congrats! Some of the weight I'm sure is due to plastics, and some from eating to heal. I have this message in my head that I have to finish what's on my plate going on, after all it's just 1 more bite. how ironic. I also know if I don't eat it, my husband will and he is increasing his weight but can't stop. So I eat it. Tomorrow I will be doing my fast day of 700 calories. :)

Oh and we will be very successful this 2015!

Glad to join you ladies, its so much easier with support! I need to lose 7 to get to the top of my goal range, and 10 to get to my lowest. Why does it seem like a million??!! ...I know we can do it though... one day at a time. One hour at a time!

Kim, I'm going for one bite at a time the first week.

I want to lose about 15# which seems impossible...Haha.

Thing is I am pretty "ok" where I am at but feel the desire to get back to a trimmer weight...gives me wiggle room. Also, I like how I looked in the low 140s.

So, let's do it!

I am attempting a fast day today....wish me luck. I feel low confidence about it but I remind myself of the amazing results I got from 5:2 in August 2013.... lost 12-13 pounds in just over a month! I was in much better condition (muscle mass) then so I expect it will go slower this time but I am using that memory to build"success" visualization.
