Day 1 post op- problems with water?

Recommended Posts

M really feeling pretty good one day post-op but wondering if it's normal to have trouble even drinking Water unless I heat it up first? If I put it in the microwave for a minute, I can sip it pretty well. Room temp or cooler, I feel it in my chest like when you take too big of a gulp of soda and there's like a burning and pressure feeling. My face starts to burn up, I start sweating, and feel like I'm about to vomit. It passes after a few minutes but I'm wondering if it's normal for room temp or cool Water to be so hard to swallow!

I had the lap band put in yesterday and hernia repair.

Thanks!

you have a lot of swelling so at first you do have to sip, sip, sip. I think its like 1oz every 15mins.

What you're describing sounds to me like getting to full to quick.

If taking smaller sips doesn't help, you should talk with your Dr.

It possible they gave you a fill during surgery, that was a bit to much.

Best of luck!

I don't know about normal; I can only say it was not that way for me. I know sometimes people's throat can be tender after any kind of surgery because of the intubation. Maybe your throat is just extra sensitive right now because of that.

Hopefully someone with knowledge about this kind of thing will answer here.

Im glad you're listening to your body and responding accordingly.

Hang in there. You may want to call your surgeon's office to ask about it just to be on the safe side. You DONT want to throw up. That much, I know!

I don't drink soda I stopped cause my doc. said nothing carbonated also I wanted to lose weight not gain it back even with diet soda they all have a lot of calories and sodium . but I was told I could have Ice chips for 3 days post op and to sip room temp Water every 15 min, and not to drink or try to gulp cause it would hurt after having surgery I don't know what your doc told you but I do know what mine told me so I hope this helped , I would call the doc to make sure of anything .

Happened to me too. Sip sip. Try some Protein Water when you do sip.. Sneak it in whenever you can! I left a capped bottle next to me, even in bed so I could sip constantly.welcome! Good luck to you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
