December Surgeries!?!?!?

i had a bomb dropped on me yesterday. I called insurance Wednesday, the guy said I was approved. I waited a day and booked flights for fam to come here for surgery.

Then yesterday, I get a call from docs office that they want 3 month diet and a psych eval.

So I call my insurance 3 times trying to sway them and I was pretty close but it didn't work. They sent out two letters... one approving my lap band removal but for the gastric they want more documentation. My disagreement with them was, why would you approve one and not the other? It's cheaper to do both in one surgery. And, I told her if I don't get approved for RNY in time for my Dec 10th surgery date and of course i'm going to get approved eventually even if after the Dec 10th.... You already approved me for the removal of lap band, and you are then forcing me to do two surgeries. Do you look at the cost of that? Can't you justify it to the company for the cost? She said they do look at cost but they still need the documentation for RNY.

So, I had to rush to my doc this morning so he could document more.... and then I have to go in Dec 2nd for another visit and then they will submit again to insurance.

Either way i'm having surgery on the 10th even if it's to remove the lap band. My insurance can eat the cost of it.... lol

Can one eat Beans later as a soft food? And what about seeded fruits?

I like that question. I'd like to know too so I can eat as vegan as possible.

Hello onehawtgammy he's my doctor also....isn't he hot stuff :-)!!! Lol!!! Hope everything is going well for you' date=' keep in touch and i'll surely do the same![/quote']

Oooh yeah he's a Hottie! But you can tell he's rather arrogant. I'm sure we will see each other! I got a letter from Cigna yesterday saying that St Francis is not in their network but the website says it is. Also that they've approved for a ONE night stay in the hospital for 12/20. I'm gonna call them on Monday & give them the what for. Like they can tell the Dr what day he can do the surgery on?!

Where are you from? I'm having mine that day also.

I'm really dealing with a lot of anxiety waiting for Dec 2 to get here. My surgeons office told me people have made it to the pre-op room day of surgery and walked out last minute!!! I told my friend that and she said she could see me doing that...didn't help a bit!! I'm afraid to say too much about my anxiety to the MD because I don't want them to change their minds!!! It is going to be a longing for me....

I feel the same way about the anxiety. I am going to see my DR Nov. 20th and ask if I can take a xanax the mornig before I get to the hospital. I have such a fear of needles, hospitals, and doctors. A couple years ago I had ovarian cysts removed and freaked out right as they were wheeling me in. So I really don't want anything to happen like that with this to stop them from preforming the surgery.

Is anyone buying things pre op to prepare ? What kind of protein are you using ? I currently use Premier Protein as a ready made shake but I just ordered a sample pack of Chike to try different flavors of powders. Any must have items your surgeon has mentioned ?

Today is my first day on diet. I bought ready made shakes optifast brand. ... ive had the powders in the past but I need to ready made cause of my schedule. I just cut up half sandwich bags of carrots, bell pepper, and tomato for work if I get a craving for something crunchy. And also one boiled egg and two shakes. Work should be fine but when I get off at 12 will be when the battle starts lol ill prob just have a shake after work and an egg and take something to knock my ass out lol

Also going to go by walgreens before work and pick up some big cans of Arizona tea... they have some awesome 0 calorie ones. . Half lemonade half tea

I am going Wednesday to my last visit before surgery on Dec. 2nd. The surgeon's office gives you a 10% discount on day of consent signing (part of Wednesday's visit) and requires if you don't buy there to bring in your supplies so they know you have the right protein and vitamins ready for when you go home...if not, they will not do surgery! I'm buying my supplies there...I've been using the Nectar products and LOVE the chocolate truffle and PB2 mixed together. For 8 ounces of milk and powders it is the pure protein at 36 grams. I love it and actually drink one every morning now.

I also will buy all of my bariatric vitamins from them - it is easier. They have all of them needed in chewables and they are bariatric specific so at least the first 3 months worth I'm buying there.

I also will buy the chicken broth and flavored protein liquid for water both at 15 grams per serving. He requires 3 whole weeks on post surgery on nothing but liquids...it is going to be tough! Every surgeon seems to have their own ideas/program...at the 3 week post surgery mark you go in and get a check up and a nutritional consult to move to the next eating stage - I thought this was just to charge us more money, but they don't charge for the visit at all at 3 weeks, so...guess they are just conservative! he has a GREAT results record and is an Excellence in Bariatrics surgeon.

They are suppose to tell me more of things to get that will help at the hospital and after surgery on Wednesday so I'll share more then!
