No pre-op liquid diet?

Am I the only person that did NOT have to do the two week liquid diet, before surg? Wonder why. I assume different docs do different things but it seems like everybody else has to..... 4 days and counting!

I'm envious of you guys that didn't have to do this. Its all drink and pee. I'd rob an old lady for a cheeseburger right now lol

  • My doctor requires a certain amount of weight loss before surgery to shrink the liver, so no liquid diet. The nut says you have to get used to modifications before surgery because "he's not operating

I was put on the liquid diet because it reduces the size of your liver making surgery easier. Its not to prove anything else. No foods for me but horrible shakes, sugar free popsicles and jello and broth. The only food food is 1/ cup of non starchy veggies. I'm on day four and I'm hungry!

My Dr requires it but since I had went from 259 down to 216 during my time I was required to work with a NUT to learn how to eat... My Dr said I didn't need to do the 2 week diet.. just the 24-48 hour cleanse.

2 weeks before surgery I was actually asked to stop losing because I was under the required weight to have surgery.

So I pigged out the 2 weeks before surgery... Well at least tried! My body refused to allow it most of the time and would put me on timeout sending me to the bathroom with the runs or to vomit. I tell you... Once you start eating healthy your body won't except anything else. Not even those darn Girl Scout Cookies. LOL

I'm one week into my 2 week liquid diet and I think I've already lost 12 lbs!!!! My Dr requires everybody to do the 2 week liquid diet. The NUT said any more than that isn't really healthy.

The NUT would hate me then cuz I'm down 12.5 pounds and this is day four of ten.

No Liquid diet for me... Just the day before surgery...

no liquid diet for me either...they only told me nothing to eat or drink after midnight day of surgery..

No liquid diet is required for me either. I just had to lose 25 pounds an not gain anything back. I've lost close to 50 pounds but it took me a year and a half to lose it. I was told that after time your weight will readjust and go back to your liver. I'm afraid that my liver may still be too fatty. So I opted to do the liquid diet anyway. Just 9 days, because I didn't think to do it before then. I'm half way through day 3. So far it's not so bad. But I've done "cleanses" in the past so I kind of know what to expect. I've only ever managed 5 days before though. So I guess we'll see how this goes.
