  1. Depends on your dr. And their specific plan. I'm not allowed caffeine. Before after or ever again according to my plan. But can have decaf.

    All Alone

I'm alone too. I have a room mate but we're not close and she doesn't know this is happening. Surgery is tomorrow. I think I'll be alright though. If I really need help I can stay with my parents. But I'd rather not.

    Getting pre addmission done

I'm just the day before you. I don't think it's rally hit me yet. I'm more focused on and excited about time off work. I'll probably freak out a bit after surgery. It'll be real then.

    No pre-op liquid diet?

No liquid diet is required for me either. I just had to lose 25 pounds an not gain anything back. I've lost close to 50 pounds but it took me a year and a half to lose it. I was told that after time your weight will readjust and go back to your liver. I'm afraid that my liver may still be too fatty. So I opted to do the liquid diet anyway. Just 9 days, because I didn't think to do it before then. I'm half way through day 3. So far it's not so bad. But I've done "cleanses" in the past so I kind of know what to expect. I've only ever managed 5 days before though. So I guess we'll see how this goes.
  7. I haven't yet but I likely will have to soon. I'm having surgery 8/7 and switching jobs and insurance sept 1st. I'm contemplating paying for 6 months just to do all the initial follow up at the same office. But I don't know if that's going to work. I actually like my surgeon and the team. I'll let you know how it goes if I do end up switching.

    Accurate body weight scale

I have the fitbit aria scale http://www.fitbit.com/aria it's pricy but I love it. It's always very close to the same as my dr's scale. Plus it adds my weight to my fitbit account which is pretty cool.

    What to expect post op...

I'm still pre-op but I've had surgery before and stayed in the hospital for a while. It was mostly very boring. And I slept a lot. I was in for a severe leg fracture so walking was difficult. I had a catheter and was glad for it. I actually asked for it the first time. Bed pans are no fun. its not as bad as you might think. The worst part is laying there awkwardly as they put it in or take it out. But from what I understand if you have one they will put it in while you're asleep, and sometimes they remove it before you wake up. So you might not even have to worry about it.

    Psych Evaluation

I had 4 of them... I believe in all of them they wanted to know what I eat, what i do for exercise, what research I've done, how I got fat (I.e have you always been or did it happen after pregnancy.. Etc) have you ever purged, do you binge or hoard food. If I cook for myself or if some one else does. If I cook for a family. If my family (parents siblings) is also over weight. If I think obesity is learned or genetic. Who your support people are. If you know any one who's had the surgery. That's all I can think of off hand.
  12. I'm sure it depends on your insurance. I know with kaiser they won't move ahead until the weight is lost. But I've read about others where it's not as important. I'm afraid you'll just have to wait and see.

    Bypass vs Sleeve

It's really difficult to stretch your pouch to the point that it will make a big difference. Or so I've read. I think the more common reason for weight re-gain is grazing, snacking, and slider foods. Of course do your own research, that's just what I've seen. I chose bypass because its been around longer and because the weight loss is slightly higher than with the sleeve. I also like the idea of possibly dumping. I feel I might need a little more incentive to eat right occasionally... Also because if all goes horribly wrong you still have all your parts floating around, and I assume they can put it back together if needed. Granted it still won't be the same as it was. but it makes me feel better to have all my pieces.
  14. I'll make this as short as possible. I have two jobs. one part time one full time. I'm approve for surgery with a date of august 7th through kaiser whom i have through my part time job. the problem is that almost immediately following surgery (within a month) I will be quitting my part time job. My full time job does not offer kaiser. They only offer anthem blue shield. I'm not going to pit surgery on hold longer and try to get approved through anthem blue shield. I'm just not. So my problem is that I have had kaiser my entire life. I don't know how to work blue shield. At all. So I figure my first step is to find a pcp under my new plan. And I've been looking on the web site, but I don't know how to chose (any input would be appreciated). I assume that after I find a pcp he/she may be able to refer me to a wls surgeon for my follow up appointments if any are necessary. Does this sound right? I found one general practitioner with a specialty in diabetes and metabolism. Which seams like he might have some knowledge or experience with wls patients. So I'll be calling his office. Pretty much I need any advise any one would like to give me regarding this situation. The long shot. Does any one have suggestions for a doctor in the anthem blue shield network in the San Francisco Bay Area?
  15. No. As far as I can tell all kaiser dr. Are only kaiser dr. They don't take anything else.
  16. I just posted this in the "August 2013 surgeries" thread. I'm going through kaiser and they give everyone a big binder of information. This is what it says about what to have and what to bring. Have at home: Stage 1 and 2 liquids Milk of magnesia (for nights b4 surgery) Oral thermometer Bring to hospital: Unflavored Chapstick Slippers Robe Ear plug Brush/comb Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant C-pap (if applicable) Loose clothing for discharge I've also heard that small plates, baby cutlery, and small tupperware (1/2 cup disposable containers etc.) are good to have. Also food processor or blender (but thats probably not absolutely necessary) and food scale I you don't already have them.
