No pre-op liquid diet?

Am I the only person that did NOT have to do the two week liquid diet, before surg? Wonder why. I assume different docs do different things but it seems like everybody else has to..... 4 days and counting!

My doctor requires a certain amount of weight loss before surgery to shrink the liver, so no liquid diet. The nut says you have to get used to modifications before surgery because "he's not operating on your brain " as she likes to point out.

Yeah, that's the same mine said. He said low fat this last week so the liver will shrink.

OK. At least I know somebody else's is the same. :) Thanks!

No liquid pre-op diet for me either. In fact my surgeon made it simple and to the point - "Lose 20 lbs pre-op or no surgery." That was it. No diet. No recommendations. Just do it.

To this day I have never asked her what her reasoning is behind her approach but she does a LOT of bariatric surgeries so it apparently works. I know it did for me - I lost 35 lbs from my first meeting with her to my surgery date. I've often wondered if doctors who require the pre-op liquid diet waive that requirement for patients who lose the required pre-op weight on their own.

I had to do the 2 week shake evilness for both my band and my RNY. For my band I was told to lose 10 pounds 'or else', for my RNY I was just told to lose something. Same surgeon. I assume its because I was smaller RNY ore-RNY but I've often wondered if it wasn't because I'd already proven myself to him.

HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.2

I had to lose 15% of my excess weight before surgery and then still have to do the two week liquid diet to shrink my liver. All surgeons are different I guess!

I wasn't told to lose anything. I think I've gained a couple lbs cuz of my farewell-to-food tour and NOT being told any different. Just low-fat this last week. I hope I'm good enough to go in 3 days!

I have to do the 2 week liver shrink but NO other diet or required weight loss before surgery. The liver shrink isn't totally liquid. It's protein shakes and bars, 3oz of meat, salad, yougurt, unlimited non starchy veges and baked potatoes on my liver shrink and fruit.

Good....makes me feel better. I was getting worried that I'm not doing something right!

My surgeon requires a pre op diet but not liquid. Carb count cannot exceed 30gm and must get 85-100gm of protein. The 24hrs before surgery is the only liquid day. I'm so happy I can have food!

I didn't have a preop diet. Just wasn't allowed to gain weight. And had to do just clear liquids the day before.

I had I lose 20-30lbs and still a 2 week liquid diet. I didn't lose quite 20lbs so my surgeon put me on a 3 week liquid diet to lose extra weight.

I had an awesome diet for 30 days 28 days 2 shakes 1 snack and 2 meal the last 2 days liquid only lost 15 pounds.

After I ask the Dr if I would have to do two weeks of liquid, he ask me how much did I think I could lose pre-surgery? I said 15lbs? He said ok lets do that. And one day just clear fluids.

I'm going to Disney World in October so I wanted to lose at least 15 just to give be a bit more energy.
