January Dates

I am starting this so all of us who are beginning 2013 in a big way can share stories, advice and experiences.

My surgery date is 1/21/13 and this has been a year long journey for me. I began last December with a physical and my Dr. and I decided it was time. I had to go through 6 months of weigh-ins and visits with the nutritionist before I was even allowed to see the surgeon. I finally met him in July and then was given a whole new list of tests and appointments that needed to be done. My insurance finally approved me earlier this month, but only for surgery after January 1, so January 21st it is.

I am so excited to start this journey and thank you all in advance for sharing your experiences here!

I've been on my journey since June when I attended a seminar after learning that my insurance covered the surgery. After meeting with my Surgeon on July 7th, I started my pre-op testing, blood work, upper GI, EKG, nut and psych. Everything went well except for my psych, who diagnosed me with depression and anxiety and instructed me to have 6 months of therapy. Which I have one last appointment on Wednesday. I've been on a liquid diet for a week now, and I have my surgeon's appointment in a week to find my date, I'm hoping for the end of January. :)

The what? LoL potty? If so' date=' I have... i had to stop taking whey Protein moved to soy and still upset now I gotta move to beef protein.[/quote']

LOL there are all sorts of things I call it like the Atomic D! Lol but yea Diarrhea. I'm afraid that when I start my liquid diet on the 14th I'm going to have it and be shut up in my house.

I've beef taking the Vitamins before I don't think it will hurt anything. Also has anyone who's started the liquid diet have the shadoobs from only taking in liquid?

Oh thank god someone has mentioned this. By "shadoobs" I assume you mean "the runs". hahaha. Not to be all TMI, but since starting this liquid diet, I have been gassy and back and forth to the bathroom. I thought I was the only one. It's driving me crazy. I think my body is slowly getting used to the shakes, but geez, they don't warn you! LOL

Ok guys...since I feel so comfortable in this thread with you all...I just wanted to (continue) to vent. I need some good thoughts passed my way! Yesterday I had a pill cam endoscopy to view my small intestines. I had a colonscopy...and the biopsy came back negative for Crohn's, but with the pill cam, they are still checking to see if I have Crohn's. My surgeon said he will not do the bypass on January 15th if it's Crohn's, but he feels confident that it's not. I'm still scared though. I get my results Monday or some time mid-week the latest. Worst case if it was Crohn's, I'd have to resubmit to insurance everything and do the sleeve (which my insurance doesn't cover, but we could try).

So not only is it HARD doing the liquid diet, but it's also HARDER knowing it could all be for nothing if they do find Crohn's. I will keep all updated.

So surgery is a go for 1/15, but if it's Crohn's...it's off. PLEASE keep me in your prayers. I don't think it's that...but there's a small chance it could be.

Anyway, I'm day 5 on liquid diet and just trying to hang in there. I'll let you guys know of the results as soon as I know. Fingers crossed, please.

:(:unsure::wacko: :wacko:

You will be in my prayers. I know all the waiting is completely nerve racking. I'm hoping they will find nothing wrong and surgery will go as scheduled. Yours is a week before mine sink would love to know how your recovery goes.

Thank you. I will keep you updated asap!!!

I want to wish you all the best of luck on your surgeries. I know how you feel....anxious about waiting for dates and waiting for the date to come.

Thank you for the good wishes . I am thinking about the last diet Pepsi I am going to have tommorow I am going to savor every sip. I wish I could have the last meal but I know I can't after 3 I can only have clear liquids after I dri k the nasty stuff.

Sooo i just got all my Vitamins for post op... do i start now? Will it hurt/help? Including the B12 shots?

If I remember correctly, it's ok to take the vitamins prior to. However, at my pre-op I was told not to take them from surgery until week two after surgery. Always a good idea to check with your doctor as he/she may have a specific reason for wanting you to start early or wait until later.

Good luck!!!

OK. Surgery on Monday. I've not been nervous till now. Had all my Food Funerals today. All liquid tomorrow. Not really required, but I thinks its best. I really need prayers. I'm a needle-a-phobic and am very nervous about the IV and multiple shots that I'm gonna get. Not afraid of pain or the surgery, just the needles. Lol. I know I'm weird. Super excited about my future though. God Bless.

You definitely have my prayers. I felt the same way the day before my surgery.
