January Dates

I am starting this so all of us who are beginning 2013 in a big way can share stories, advice and experiences.

My surgery date is 1/21/13 and this has been a year long journey for me. I began last December with a physical and my Dr. and I decided it was time. I had to go through 6 months of weigh-ins and visits with the nutritionist before I was even allowed to see the surgeon. I finally met him in July and then was given a whole new list of tests and appointments that needed to be done. My insurance finally approved me earlier this month, but only for surgery after January 1, so January 21st it is.

I am so excited to start this journey and thank you all in advance for sharing your experiences here!

Hi all! My name is Katie and I just heard about this great app! I am 26 and live outside of Philly. I am scheduled for RNY on January 10th (yikes!) I am on day 10 of the liquid diet, it's been a struggle but I am making it through. I have to say my insurance approval was so quick and easy. I was approved within a week of meeting with my doctor. I was a little skeptical at first since I heard of how long it took for so many others.

I am anxious, scared, nervous and excited all at once. Of course I hear the horror stories and somehow in my mind it outweighs the great successes I hear about. I am lucky to have my husband by my side and then following my surgery my husband will also have the surgery a few weeks later. It's nice to have someone to go through it with!

I havent cheated but I feel like I havent lost as much weight as I should have. 8 lbs since 12/28, seems great in theory but i am terrified the dr will to open. Anyone else experience this?

Hang in there. After day 5 and 6, it gets a little easier. I hate the shakes too...ugh.

After 10 days on the liquid diet I broke down tonight and had a piece of chocolate. I have my monthly visitor and honestly couldn't stop thinking about it. I know I shouldn't have but I did Hopefully my liver won't be affected.

I didn't lose much on liquids either. I lost 7 lbs only had a 10day liquid diet. Remember the only purpose of the pre op liquid diet is so that your liver shrinks some so that its not in the way. So it's ok if you didn't lose a lot of weight.i weighed myself before leaving for surgery, cuz at the hospital they didn't weigh me. That is the only reason I know my pre op weight.

No it won't affect you. Now if you didn't follow the diet every day and you didn't lose a pound then that's another story.

Hello everyone! My surgery is scheduled for Jan 24. I went to an all day seminar in June and have been working on all my requirements since. After finishing up with my six months of dietary at the end of November-I finally got approval around Christmas. I am very excited to start this journey. I have seen a few people where I work at have the surgery and it has gone very well for them. I realize that this is only a tool and I still have to put alot of hard work into everything. I have been following a low carb diet for a few years and lost 40 pounds from my all time high but with PCOS and insulin resistance I just take weight off slow. My endocrinologist felt this would be a great benefit for me. So here I am... Looking forward to getting to know people on here and following everyone successful journey...
