I was 325 at my highest and my dr wanted me to get to a BMI of 50, that's 296 for me. I don't think all drs require this though. Good luck :)

I started last month at 310 and I am only 5'3. I lost 32 pounds in the first 2 weeks after surgery.

You are definitely NOT to big for this surgery. I have seen people that weighed over 400 pounds have it and they are doing great.

You can have the surgery also and you will do great also!!

I had surgery in Mexico and they did not require me to get down to a certain BMI so there is always the Mexico option but I know alot of US surgeons don'trrequire that either.

Oh I forgot to mention, I only got down to 303 and they didn't say anything day if surgery. I was sleeved in Mexico by dr Ortiz, but I see people all the time who were heavier. In the US and mex. you will be fine :)

Anyone in the 300 range I need some support. I think I'm too big to have this surgery I weigh in at 345

My high weight at the 1st of the year was 405lbs. My surgery was on 3/18/13. I'm at 296lbs.

I had the surgery at 379 and am currently 9 months out and down to 227, that's 152 pound loss, I will tell you I feel much better then I ever have and think this was the best decision I ever made in my life. It hasn't always been easy but well worth it.

Hi. I'm going for my first weigh in tomorrow. I think I'm at 302 and my BMW is 49.6. I know my dr wants me to lose at least 5% so 15 lbs. I would love for my surgery to be in February. It works out best for my family. I think it depends on your doc. Good luck.

I was 320 on the day of my surgery. My surgeon thought I would lose more with bypass but I was not interested in that because of the higher risk of complications and I did not let her push me into it. I have been SO happy with my results so far- no regrets!

How long after your surgery were you able to take zumba? I've been wanting to do that!

i started out in january at 398. day of surgery i was 379. and now i'm 316! so no, you are not too big for surgery. it will change your life. i workout at a gym 3 days a week now. i had never been inside a gym until after the surgery. so many good changes will come your way. it was the best decision i've ever made.

I weighed in at just a little less than you when I went for my first appointment with my surgeon. And I am just average height so my BMI was really high. My surgeon went over all the options with me, including bypass and duodenal switch, but we settled on the sleeve for a variety of reasons. I am 12 weeks out now and down over 90 lbs (that's including my weight loss before surgery) and show no signs of slowing down. The last time I saw my surgeon he told me he thinks I'm going to do really well and reach my goal weight. And I know people who weighed a lot more than either of us did who have been very successful with this surgery.

That said, if you are leaning more towards having another surgery such as DS or bypass, those also give a lot of people really good results. I'm not here to sell the sleeve as the perfect surgery for everyone, just saying that people as heavy and heavier than you can and do great with it.

I was 365 the day of surgery which was June 18, 2013. I currently weigh 290. Although I was leery at first, I am such an advocate now. Having this surgery is the best thing I've ever did for myself. All you have to do is follow your doctor and nutritionist's advice and you will be successful.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
