Anyone have carbs after surgery in moderation? My doc keeps telling me I won't miss them. Just would like to know, despite changing my lifestyle, can't imagine life without a small amount if pizza or Pasta every once in a while.

I've had carbs and I'm barely a month out however I have a baby bowl to make sure I don't over eat anything. I'm been ok.

I used to have pasta or pizza weekly pre-sleeve. A lot of my cooking was throwing protein, veggies and pasta together for a casserole or stir-fry. Haven't had any cravings for it yet but once the weather cools off that might change. My Dr told me a year after surgery (he didn't say I had to wait a year but used that timeline) if I go out to a pizza place with friends I'd probably eat 1 piece of pizza instead of multiple pieces. I've not had either yet.

I have eaten a pot sticker with no problems. But 1 was all I could eat.

I'm 4.5 months out and I have thin pizza once in a while. I don't eat bread (it makes me feel sick) and I haven't resumed the Pasta. But I've had a few bites of baked potato, etc. I stay around 70 g of carbs a day but I am "allowed" up to 120.

Carbs are in everything unless you eat straight meat/cheese non stop. I just avoid the starchy carbs the best I can.

My Doc and Nut said I could have carbs but limited amounts and I have to eat my protein first, then veggies and if I have room I can have a small amount of carbs. Most of the time I choose not to, but I have had a small boiled potato, 3 frech fries, 1 tbs of pasta, 1/2 c popcorn. I haven't tried bread but I didn't really eat many carbs before as I was diabetic so it's not so different now except I am off all high blood pressure meds and my diabetic meds and I don't want them back so I keep the carbs intentionally low, oh I also spend my carbs on fruit like casaba or cantalope melons, strawberries ect. After a while if you budget for it you can probably have some carbs, just make it the good ones.

To throw another answer in the mix, my doctor doesn't restrict carbs (or calories...or anything, for that matter). My only job is to eat a minimum of 70g of protein per day, and other foods are my choice. I've had a plethora of carbs post-op (I'm almost 3 months out), but find that I just can't eat much of them - they swell up in mah belly. I do enjoy them, though!

I eat pizza if I have to--like a pizza party at work or a bday part, but I do not buy pizza for myself. Generally a small slice of thin crust or a half a piece of regular (bready kind) and I just eat the toppings. I don't like to eat nor enjoy fluffy yeasty bread in my stomach plus it makes me farty.

My docs do not have a "never again" list. Instead, they say these things will not help with your weight loss and can cause you to gain weight later on, so if you eat them, eat them rarely as a treat. The only "rule" I have is 80g of Protein minimum a day and wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. If I follow those two rules, I generally don't do much by the way of carbs. The other rule is protein first, then non-starchy veggies, then fruit, then fats/whole grains, etc type stuff. If you follow that order, you won't have room. Also, if you eat fruit as your sweets, I try to eat it with some protein, either cheese or cottage cheese. It keeps you from having that sugar craving later on.

I'm not sure when your surgery was, but I am coming up on my 6 months and really only started experimenting recently with added foods. I chose to wait to reintroduce a lot of stuff mostly because I wanted to get a feel for eating and regaining normalcy with food and my sleeve.

I eat carbs. This is a new life not a diet to me. I don't crave them, but I do enjoy a slice of pizza or a bialy from time to time.

Like Joia, my doctor doesn't restrict anything and every time I see the nutritionist she tells me not to count things. Of course I count but you can still lose. The rules I'm supposed to follow: Three meals a day, at least 60 grams of protein (higher if you're male), and 64 ounces of water. What I find is that when I follow these rules I DON'T HAVE MUCH ROOM FOR ANYTHING ELSE. With the restriction I have at four months out, it's a struggle to get the protein (I don't drink the shakes anymore, get it all through food). But I had a brownie today. And some crackers. These all have carbs. On the other hand, I made them myself using low carb recipes so they have minimal carbs but they have some.
