August 19, 201312 yr Before anyone jumps down my throat I'm asking for a friend who is alsoGetting this done. What is the minimal time she needs to stop smoking i think its a month smoking can cause slow healing and blood clots

August 19, 201312 yr My surgeon requires that you have to quit 2 months before surgery. He does blood/urine tests during pre op testing and will NOT do surgery if ere are traces of nicotine
August 19, 201312 yr Author Ok I tell her twos months. My surgery is sept 10 but hers isn't until October
August 19, 201312 yr That is 2 months prior to surgery, then she should wait at least another month post surgery while her stomach heals from the surgery and the incisions heal. You really don't want to mess with this surgery. It is too important! Can her PCP help her quit altogether? I have heard that people are really helped by using Chantix that they stopped smoking after 1 week!
August 19, 201312 yr Ok I tell her twos months. My surgery is sept 10 but hers isn't until October tell her too do the electronic cigg much better than smoking doest have the 5000 other chemicals ciggs have
August 19, 201312 yr If she is gonna quit' date=' why would she ever want to go back?[/quote'] i agree big daddy if someone is trying to better thier health w surgery why smoke .. but being an ex smoker i know how hard it is too quit
August 19, 201312 yr i agree big daddy if someone is trying to better thier health w surgery why smoke .. but being an ex smoker i know how hard it is too quit Ok, but if she is already looking for the minimum amount of time to quit, that just shows she is not serious about quitting.
August 19, 201312 yr I used Chantix 4 years ago & haven't smoked since. You can smoke during the first week but it is a 3-4 month program & you do have to want to quit. It took more than 3 years before I no longer had any urge to smoke. Chantix is supposed to lessen the chance of gaining a lot of weight when quitting. I did gain about 10-12 pounds over 6 months & then lost it over the next 6 months without changing anything. But a former co-worker of mine says she gained 50 pounds & is now diabetic.
August 20, 201312 yr Author Joe that's not what I was asking I meant the time up until surgery for safety reasons she will be quitting after that some drs recommend 6-8 weeks before surgery others 3 months etc
August 20, 201312 yr Joe that's not what I was asking I meant the time up until surgery for safety reasons she will be quitting after that some drs recommend 6-8 weeks before surgery others 3 months etc I was told 5 weeks. I am in Indiana. I don't have my date yet, but when I went to the seminar and the doctor said that, I quit that night cold turkey. It has been tough, but has also been two months.
