July 2013 Sleevers

Any other newbies on this journey out there?? Had my sleeve on Tuesday, 7/16; so I'm 9 days out. Day 3 has been the worst so far. Think I possibly have temporary (I hope) lactose-intolerance as I'm struggling with some bowel issues; but beyond that, I feel very good. Not being hungry all the time is wonderful. Still hard to get in the habit of not drinking for 30 min. before; during; and 30 min. after eating. How is everyone else making out?

I don't really have a problem with taking bigger "sips" either. Does anyone know the reason for sipping? Will it stretch the pouch if you gulp? I've always been a gulper and its really hard not to now :/

I was told that sipping will help you not get dehydrated, plus taking too big a gulp at first will give the spasms...and I still get those occasionally when a sip has been a gulp, but have noticed that my sips have become more like a normal drink now...but can't do it too fast it still hurts a bit if I do!

Ohh that makes sense. I did take little tiny sips at first but I'm finding now that I can tolerate bigger drinks at a time. Thank goodness. But does that mean the stomach is stretching? Or just healing and becoming less swollen?

I don't think the stomach is stretching, but I think you are on the right track with healing! I will research and find out. I did read, pre-surgery, that sometimes your stomach will stretch a bit if you eat too much, which I just don't know how overeating is possible, at this point. There is a certain amount of stretching and then the stomach goes back. But I will look it up! Any one else with comments on this?????

I can drink normally, and have no trouble with a straw. I can take a big sip or even multiple sips. If I do too much, like I would have before when really thirsty, maybe 4 swallows or more, then it will hurt and remind me. Otherwise, I find it is not much different to drink than before. Thank goodness. I don't have time to drink by teaspoon.

well it's 22 days post op and doing great... tiny bit sad that I've only lost 12 pounds... it's a little disheartening... I'm on regular foods and so far my only enemy is breads it is so uncomfortable to eat its not even worth the suffrage!!! I had two drinks last night with a shot of rum in half of a cup of orange juice...... anyone else tried a drink?

Ask me tomorrow! I am going to an engagement party tonight! Not sure if I want to try alcohol in big amounts but I will have one. :)

I sent invites on my fitness pal to a few I saw on here. I'm sure I missed a lot. Please friend me on there. I want to see what others are eating on a daily basis and I want support from those in the same situation. I am Kelaelaine on fitness pal. Thanks.

I was told no alcohol in the first year.

I was sleeved on 4/5 and totally had a terrible first 2 weeks. But, things did settle down and I am getting back to somewhat normal again. Of course only eating a few bites of food is certainly not what most people think of as "normal". I am on my first stay over night business trip right now and I was so worried that this was going to go terrible. I did plan ahead and packed my old stand by of cottage cheese and peaches. I also have my skim milk and protein powder with me. But, the food that was served has been OK so far - just felt bad that my company had to pay for my plate of food when I only ate a few bites of the broiled fish and carrots. But, really happy that there was a choice such as this. I also had my 2nd surgery followup appt yesterday and I am down 45 lbs already. I was thrilled! I wanted to tell everyone I saw. :) I don't have a scale at home - and only plan to weight when I am at dr appts - saves me the stress and frustrations of seeing it not move on certain days. I don't think I could stand that - this is hard work and I don't need the added frustrations. I was definately someone who had "buyers remorse" but, know I would have never been able to lose 45lbs without my sleeve.

I don't think you should be drinking alchohol right now. Could be the reason you are not losing weight. I was told not to have it for the first year. Not something I wanted to hear - but, after going through this surgery and all the pain, expense and everything else - why would you not want to give it the best chance possible?

I am so glad to hear - my doctor told me yesterday that I could give straws a try again - I am 6 wks out. I have really missed drinking from a straw - I know it will help me to get more Fluid in.

thanks everyone! I never asked or was told about the alcohol rule...not for a whole year...that's do able!!!!

I am also on myfitnesspal! But I can only add through an email address. You can add me at maryewrz@yahoo.com

Fooducate is also a great app. I happen to like it better than myfitnesspal. Just sayin'. :)
