  1. Congratulations!!! You look great! I had my sleeve done on 7/5/13 and I am down about 94 lbs. I feel so much better but, for some reason I still can't get myself to take any pictures. Hopefully, by the time I am down 100 lbs. I won't be so afraid of a camera.
  2. I was sleeved on 7/5 - so, I am just a bit over 7 weeks out. I was doing just fine eating until last week. I am still mostly eating soft foods - but, trying little bites of new foods. I now on Saturday for the first time - vomited LOTS and had severe pain and gassy stomach after eating. I have moved back to eating the good old standard of oatmeal, cottage cheese and egg beaters. But, those don't even sit well with me anymore. I feel terrible after I eat or drink. Should I call my doctor?

    Problems out of the blue.

I had terrible allergy problems last week when this started. What would that have to do with this?

    Dehydration at 5 weeks out...

Kind of interesting that comment you made about having to sit up straight. I live alone and because of that usually sit in the living room to eat while watching TV. I know - not recommended - but, that is what I do. Anyway - when I put my little plate on the stool infront of my chair and I bend over to eat - it does feel like it gets stuck. I need to sit up in order for it to move through. At least that is what it feels like. I also am having problems getting my liquids and food in right now. This is a new problem for me. Please let me know what you find out at the doctors' office. I am also worried about a stricture.

    Just for the ladies

The same thing happened to me. I was almost to 8 months without a period and it came back while I was in the hospital and I had it for about 2 weeks. REALLY HARD!! I did ask my doctor about this to see if it was "normal" and he said it wasn't normal but, happened quite often. Since, our hormones get messed up during this process. I am about 2 months post op now and I have had it 3 times.

    July 2013 Sleevers

I am so glad to hear - my doctor told me yesterday that I could give straws a try again - I am 6 wks out. I have really missed drinking from a straw - I know it will help me to get more Fluid in.

I don't think you should be drinking alchohol right now. Could be the reason you are not losing weight. I was told not to have it for the first year. Not something I wanted to hear - but, after going through this surgery and all the pain, expense and everything else - why would you not want to give it the best chance possible?

    July 2013 Sleevers

I was sleeved on 4/5 and totally had a terrible first 2 weeks. But, things did settle down and I am getting back to somewhat normal again. Of course only eating a few bites of food is certainly not what most people think of as "normal". I am on my first stay over night business trip right now and I was so worried that this was going to go terrible. I did plan ahead and packed my old stand by of cottage cheese and peaches. I also have my skim milk and protein powder with me. But, the food that was served has been OK so far - just felt bad that my company had to pay for my plate of food when I only ate a few bites of the broiled fish and carrots. But, really happy that there was a choice such as this. I also had my 2nd surgery followup appt yesterday and I am down 45 lbs already. I was thrilled! I wanted to tell everyone I saw. I don't have a scale at home - and only plan to weight when I am at dr appts - saves me the stress and frustrations of seeing it not move on certain days. I don't think I could stand that - this is hard work and I don't need the added frustrations. I was definately someone who had "buyers remorse" but, know I would have never been able to lose 45lbs without my sleeve.

    Dry mouth

That is a huge problem for me also. Especially, at night when I am sleepy. I would wake myself up and sometimes I felt like I was swallowing my tongue I was so dry. I started to use Biotene several times a day and it has helped.

    Regrets

Thank you so much for being honest. I am only 1 month post-op and I do get tired of seeing so many people on this forum say how they just "love my sleeve". I am just now starting to feel some what human again and I absolutely everyday think "man, I wish I hadn't done this." I remember saying to my daughter when I came home from the hospital - if I would have know how hard and painful this was going to be I would have NEVER done it. I would have just starved myself - because that it what I am doing anyway. But, as she reminded me - I would not have known and I would have continued down the path I was going and would have eaten myself to death within a few short years. I know in my heart that I did the right thing - but, it is not the easy way out. I just started to see a therapist and I think I will stick with her through out this process. You might want to try that.

If I was a horse, they'd shoot me

I am so sorry that you are miserable. I am 1 month post-op today and I still remember feeling just like you. "Please someone just shoot me!" was a very often lamented phrase for me also. I hated every moment of my first about 10 days. I had serious "buyers remorse". The worst!! BUT - it does get better with time and your body will start to adjust and behave itself again. My suggestion is to take lots of pain medication during this time. Not only will it help with the pain - but, it provides a much needed "happy" time.

    postponed surgery

Well, I am glad that it is an insurance thing. You will get that fixed and all will be well. But, nothing worse than going on that stupid liquid diet before you need to....so sorry.

The best item that I was able to add was fat free cheese. It makes everything taste so much better.

Thanks M&M for the tip on the tape. I am a month out today and I still have the tape stuff on my leg where they taped my cath tube. I will try eye makeup remover tonight.

    Developing acid reflux after VSG

I was on Nexium for years before surgery and was told by my doctor that my GERD might actually get worse following my sleeve surgery. I still take my 1 Nexium a day and it seems to be doing the trick for me so far.

    Popcorn

I went to the movies for the first time since my surgery this past weekend. Before my surgery going to the movies meant a big bag of M&M's and buttered popcorn with a huge diet coke. Well, needless to say I thought going to the movies was not going to be any fun at all. But, it was OK - I snuck in my thermos of water and was just fine.

    July 2013 Sleevers

I was sleeved on 7/5 - so just a day over 3 wks now. I was put on pureed food while in the hospital and I am still on it until next week. I have been eating sugar-free applesauce with vanilla protein, I usually have a hot cereal in the morning or a poached egg which I put in my baby food blender. Tuna and canned chicken have also set well with my tummy. I also had some refried beans with smashed avocado with a tiny splash of taco sauce one night. It set OK with me. But, that is about as exciting as I have gotten so far. I made egg salad one time and didn't puree it. That was not such a good idea - I was sick feeling the rest of the day. Another bad day was when I made instant oatmeal and bought the low sugar flavored one. Well, it was not low sugar enough - got nauseated after a few bites. I have had diarrhea ever since my surgery. Yesterday was the first time that I went all day without it. But, I also didn't have any bowel movement. So, now I am hoping I won't go the opposite way. My pain has been getting better until today. I am having sharp pains around my incision that was used to get my stomach out of - not sure what the reason for that is??

Anyone else hate the protein shakes?

It is the weirdest thing - but, I don't smell anything bad in my protein shakes. They just don't like me! I get gassy and need to run to the bathroom after drinking them. I even tried Almond Milk - same thing happens. I found that putting Vanilla Bean Nector protein in my sugar-free applesauce and mixing real good tasted good to me and also doesn't upset my "tummy". But, not getting the whole scoop. I also tried the Unjury Chicken Broth protein in chicken broth and it tasted good - but, I didn't feel good after drinking it. But, I think it was because I drank too much - the whole can. Not such a great idea - but, I wanted to get the whole scoop in.

    Post op 3 weeks today!

I am right there with you about those protein shakes. I can drink them - but, am so tired of drinking them. So, I started to mix my Nector Vanilla Bean protein in some sugar free applesause. Mix it really good and it does dissolve pretty good. It is really good!

    setback today. forceful vomiting.

It is good that you have a cause and can do what you need to do to fix it. I have the same feeling as you about how difficult it is to read so many posts on what others are eating so early in their process. I will be 3 wks out on Friday(7/26) and I am still on pureed foods. But, after reading some posts - think I can try something more and then I pay for it. I am glad that I read this - I have been craving a nice hot cup of coffee so bad - even decaf would make me happy. But, think I will wait as I was instructed. I hope your day will be better today!

    July sleevers!

Very nice job on losing those inches!!! You have a great attitude. Keep it up.
  22. I really messed up in making my Cream of Wheat this morning. I finally got some Vanilla Protein Powder instead of just my standard Chocolate. So, I thought putting some in my morning hot cereal would be a good idea. So, during the cooking part of brinking my water/almond milk to a boil, I dumped in some protein powder. Well, it immediately clumped up and looked like giant dumplings. So, what is the correct process to getting our protein powder into hot cereal?

    July sleevers!

I feel your pain Indium47!! My heart also goes out to you - this must be very hard for you being newly married. But, this is going to be the best test for your husband. Make sure you tell him what you need at this time. He won't be able to figure it out himself - but, he will want to help. Since, our hormones are all over the map during this time, it is hard enough for us to figure out what we need from those we love. I am dealing with things with my grown daughter - she just doesn't get the serious situation that this surgery has us going through. I truly think she thinks this is the easy way out - and thinks I was the weak one to need to do it to lose weight. She has no idea that this is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.

    July sleevers!

I was sleeved on7/5. I am down about 21 lbs. including my week liq diet before surgery. I am still having some pain and take pain medication once in while. I have had some troubles with loose stools - so, trying almond milk in my protein shakes now. I am on pureed food and doing pretty well with it right now. My biggest troubles are sleeping and I still get kind of gasy.
