July 2, 201313 yr My surgeon didn't mention a pre-op liquid diet, just wondering if anyone else out there didn't have to do that????
July 2, 201313 yr I didn´t do a pre op diet. I think that has to do with what bmi you have, the higher the more important to diet prior to surgey.
July 2, 201313 yr My BMI was high and I didn't have to do it. I had dropped 10% as required, and my doc doesn't require it of most of her patients, since we're going to be on liquid for three weeks after. She feels the 10% helps get the liver fat out of the way. She does require liquids the day before surgery, but that just makes sense. I think I had more reserves going into the surgery from eating food up until the day before, but follow your doctor's orders regardless!
July 2, 201313 yr Oh! Important thing: This is a really good reason not to compare yourself to others! Some people count pre-op liquid in their weight counts, and I have zero issue with that - they dropped it, it counts! But if someone says they dropped 35 in the first month and they're counting it, and you dropped 20 in the first month and you didn't have it to count, the situations are not at all the same... and you don't know who had pre-op liquid and who didn't. So remember: After surgery, comparisons are useless!
July 2, 201313 yr I was just on clear liquids the day before ; and I had to take 2 bottles of Mag Citrate that evening. Other than that, my doc didn't require any other dieting.
July 2, 201313 yr I am so jealous. he wants two weeks of optimist even though I have already lost 12% of my weight. Alas, such is life. alex
July 2, 201313 yr IT DEPENDS ON THE DOC, ALL R DIFFERENT WITH WHAT THE Y REQUIRE.. I HAVE A 10 DAY LOW CARB DIET TO DO, NO LIQUID DIET..
July 2, 201313 yr It depends on the doctor, and on your insurance policy. I did not have to do a liquid diet, but I know many do.

July 13, 201313 yr My surgeon doesn't require the liquid diet either. I think I may end up doing it anyway, though.
July 13, 201313 yr My surgery is on Monday and my doctor didn't require a pre op diet but he did have me start protein shakes so that I'm side to them. Midnight tonight he requires me to start only clear liquids.
July 13, 201313 yr In my search for the right Doc/price/facility I've quite a few variances re pre op diet requirements. From one day to a couple weeks. The one I settled on asks for one week.
