  1. I'm a year and almost two months out. I lost about half of my hair a few months after surgery. It's showing no signs of growing back either. How long has it taken everyone else for their hair to grow back in? I'm starting to become very worried that it won't ever come back, since 6 years ago I had another bout of hair loss. My hair used to be so thick that I WISHED half of it would fall out. Then it did and never grew back. Now it's halved again and I have about 1/4 of the hair I used to have. Thinking back on it, around the time of the first shed, I had also had gallbladder surgery. I assumed the hair loss then was from going vegetarian, but now that I know surgery can cause hair loss, I realize that was probably what caused it. I'm worried that I'm going to be balding by my 30's. You can already see my scalp through my hair, and although my body looks a lot better, I still look like crap every time I look in the mirror because of how horrible my thin hair looks.

    Hair never grew back.

You know what, I think I'm going to give rogaine a try.

    Hair never grew back.

I am going to try taking Iron supplements regularly because I have always have very low iron levels in my blood work. I have never been good with keeping up with the Vitamins. I do have results from Biotin, but only with the hair I already have. It makes my hair (and nails) grow very fast, but does not help the lost hair come back in.

Tired of women leaving me for the "cute skinny guy"

I am just in shock at everything you have said in both of your comments. YOU are attracted to thin people. Not everyone finds the same types of people attractive. "Good looking" does not equal "in shape" I personally prefer chubby men and women. Thin people are not attractive to me. But that does not mean that I would ever say as a matter of fact that everyone else shares this view. I'm not even sure you realize that everything you have written is insulting to almost everyone on this forum.

    August 2013 Roll Call

I hit my stall a week out! Just broke it a week and a half later. You'll start losing again soon! This happens to almost everyone from what I've seen.

    Veggie Burgers

I love all the faux meat products, they're all so good. Gardein brand in particular is amazing.

    August 2013 Roll Call

My big stitch was actually stapled shut. Had the staples removed after a week, and then the incision split open and became infected. :\ All of my other incisions have had allergic reactions to the skin glue and bandage adhesive. It's not pleasant.

    Fluids

Sleeved August 20th. Everything went pretty smoothly. Haven't had any problems with pain or nausea. My only trouble so far has been with extreme weakness and dizziness. After my post-op checkup yesterday, my doctor told me that I'm not getting enough Water. Apparently the 60 oz of fluids I'm supposed to be getting daily cannot count the Protein shakes. Honestly, I had been having great trouble up until that point even getting in two whole bottles of water a day as well as two Protein Shakes (30 oz of each), and this just seems even more impossible now. I haven't even been able to get out of bed because I am so weak. The thought of forcing down more water makes me want to cry, but I don't want to risk losing anymore fluids haha. So, what has everyone else's post-op liquids menu been like exactly? What and how much of everything have you been drinking during the liquids phase and how long did it last for? My NUT appointment isn't until Sept 4th, so I won't find out until then what's next for me.

    Any vegetarian sleevers?

I'm a vegetarian of 8 years. I am finding it very easy to get my Protein in! I use soy Protein shakes, and the faux meat products contain A LOT of protein. For instance, I had a piece of gardein "chicken scallopini" for lunch today, diced up with fat free mayo on a piece of bib lettuce. 14 grams of protein, 90 calories, 4 carbs, 2 grams of fat for 2.5 oz. I also made some chili the other night with tofurky soy ground beef and chili Beans. Lots of protein. There are SO many options.

    August 2013 Roll Call

Slightly more energy today. Tomorrow is my two weeks, and I get to advance onto puréed or soft foods as tolerated! Fluids are getting a bit easier. I was able to drink an entire 17oz water bottle this morning in about a half hour!

    August 2013 Roll Call

Day 12 for me. Still only down 10 lbs. It's been going up and down the same few pounds for the past week. Fluid retention maybe? Still feeling very weak and dizzy every time I stand up. Taking a shower knocks me out for the whole day. Not sure when I'll be able to go back to work.

Any ideas of which stores sell it in person? I may check some Vitamin shops.

    Liquids

My protein shakes (or soups) do not count towards my 60oz of water I'm supposed to be getting daily. Just found this out at my post-op appointment yesterday. It was too much before, now I'm really struggling.

    Fluids

I've been seeing people on puréeds after the first week. I've tried some soft foods already and haven't had a problem with them at all. In fact, I felt much better afterwards. I think three weeks of straight liquids is probably more of my problem than the doctor's answer of more Water. I wonder if I should maybe test the waters with some egg drop Soup or watered down refried Beans. I had a yogurt yesterday and it sit very well with me. As well as some thicker Soups with blended beans and veggies.

    August 2013 Roll Call

Sleeved on the 20th. Finally lost my first post-op pound yesterday after gaining 10lbs of fluids in the hospital! Now I'm 224.4, from 250 on July 12th when I started my pre-op dieting. It does feel pretty good to be getting back down there! I'm able to keep my liquids down, but drinking them in the first place isn't too fun. :\ I know I'm not drinking as much water as I should be, but I'm doing okay on my protein shakes. The worst part so far has been the incredible exhaustion and sadness. It just comes on instantly out of nowhere and I have to take a nap wherever I end up sitting down. I guess I've been lucky so far though. No pain or nausea. Really looking forward to getting these itchy staples out and progressing on to some mushy foods!

    August sleevers && preop diet

My date is Aug 20. My surgeon didn't require any pre-op diet, BUT I decided to start a liquid diet yesterday anyway. I've heard from other patients of my surgeon that he is very strict, and will cancel your surgery if you gain one pound. My original consultation was 9 months ago, and I can't remember what I weighed then, so I'm doing this just to be safe! I'll probably end up under my original weight, since I've already lost 5 lbs in one day and I have 10 more days to go. I didn't have a diet plan, so I've just been drinking Protein powder mixed with Water, homemade veggie broth, sf Jello, sf popsicles and green tea.

    Anyone from NC?

I live in Charlotte. Getting sleeved on August 20th by Dr. Pirrello.
  23. My surgeon doesn't require the liquid diet either. I think I may end up doing it anyway, though.
  24. It took me 8 months to get through all of my required pre-op appointments. I had 3 months supervised diet with a nutritionist, upper GI, bloodwork (and subsequent month on meds for h pylori), a physical and pap with my pcp, and a psych eval (which was not enjoyable). After all of that, I finally thought I was finished until the surgeon randomly tells me months after my consultation appointment that I also need lung and heart clearance. So I ended up also needing an EKG stress test, and breathing test. (Four more appointments) I'm finally done and scheduled for my surgery and final pre-op visit with the surgeon 9 months after my initial consultation.
