I was up and walking about 3 hours after surgery. Very tired and I do have gas pain in shoulder and at drain site but otherwise fine. No problems sipping my water and G2. Even ate a little jello. The Iv fluids are making me have to pee constantly which is annoying. So far better than expected. No buyer's remorse

I had to pee about every 1.5 hours due to the IV fluids - it was so annoying especially because it was such an ordeal to get out of the bed, move the IV stand and carry my pain ball. I guess it was a good thing to have to move that much but very annoying to have to get up so often at night! Good luck to you - it gets better every day. I'm almost 3 weeks out and doing a TON better. :-)

I had a catheter. It was weird, but peeing while walking, talking to visitors, getting my meds, etc. was a hoot.

If they give me a choice, I may opt for a catheter...makes life so much easier! Glad to hear your surgery went well & that you're already bouncing back! Hope I'm as fortunate as you when I get sleeved!

You need to get up every 1/2 - 1 hours to walk anyway so a catheter would not work well plus why not pee while you're up anyway

As a former night shift nurse I will say probably not! The last thing I want is a drowsy patient up in the middle of the night walking around trying to fall. But if you aren't up enough in the day time, they might.

You must have been one of THOSE patients!

It is VERY important to walk walk walk. Lessens risk of blood clot, pneumonia, and moves the gas out. But I'm sure y'all know that. Taking my nurse hat back off now and getting back into my patient gown.
