Constipation

Had surgery on the 12th.... Haven't been able to go #2 since the 11th ( a week tomorrow). Yesterday I had tea with miralax in it and still nothing... Anyone else have or had this problem? What can I do!? :-(

  • Chia seeds are truly helpful-- thanks to OTR for this recommendation! You can search "chia seeds" and there's tons of info on this forum.

  • I recently just went thru an 11 day bout of this. The hierarchy my doc suggested was the following. Do each as needed. So if 1. Didn't work, move to 2, etc. 1. One dose of milk of magnesia 2. Add

I know what you are going through I had this problem and it was terrible my doctor said magnesium citrate... it worked very well. It takes a few hours to work but it will definately get the job done.. you can get it from cvs be sure to read the directions. good luck

Like milk of magnesia?

Also remember that you're eating much less than normal. At this point you may even still be clear liquid only. My understanding is that it's not uncommon for things to er... slow down in that department simply because we're not really eating a lot.

I was home 5 days and hadn't gone. I got Equate Chewable Fiber Supplement fruit flavored tablets. I chew two of them every day and I have been going every day or every other day since.

Milk of magnesia worked for me.

My surgical PA recommended miralax as well. Of course now I caught a stomach virus and no longer need it! :(

Oh man, I feel you on this. I went through about three days of hell. I started upping my fluids and taking 2 stool softeners a day. It finally happened. It actually took 3 or 4 times for it to finally be over. ( this lasted over those days) try not to strain. Since this happened I've been taking those fiber tabs ( surgar free). I went yesterday with no issues. Then a few hours later I went again but it was very loose. ( a nice change). I will be adjusting how much fiber I take until I can find a good middle ground.

i had my surgery Jan 16. I wasnt having any constipation until I started to introduce food. I use milk of magnesia once a week. then I'm fine for a couple of days then i go 2or 3 days w/o going. I've had to use M O M every sunday (it just works out that way) good luck.

I had surgery on the 12th too! :) My doctor said it could take a week to go. I finally went today but it was extremely difficult and extremely painful! I highly recommend that you take a stool softener as soon as possible. I think we are still so dehydrated as well as the fact that we have no substance in our tummies. Hope that helps.....

The constipation is ridiculous. Like, in the sense of never before have I been constipated liked this. Ground up some exlax and have tried that unsuccessfully. Will try Milk of Magnesia.

Yep I've resorted to a stool softener every day..

And I'm three months out. It's always been an issue with me so this had just made it a bit worse.

When you are a bit more out make sure you get a little bit of veggies in everyday and some people here take chia seeds everyday. Good luck

If its that bad try a fleets enema...when using it it try to hold it in for a few minutes..

Milk of magnesia will work. I went a week with no luck, took one dose of it ,and it worked the next day! I take it about twice a week, and it's very gentle
