walking..isnt it hard already?

Hey guys so my surgery date is Fri and bc of all the weight I've gained the last few months just walking hurts my back A LOT if I do it for extended periods of time. I know we have to walk frequently to prevent blood clots but has anyone else struggled with this? Is there an alternative exercise?

Point and flex your toes ( I mean really get into it so you can feel it in your calf muscles) as often as you can remember to do it. Every time you think of it do it 10 times.... This will help prevent the blood clots, but walking is best and will also help with gas.

Also you don't have to walk for an extended period of time.. you just need to do short walks frequently.

Just do a few laps around your house a few times a day. And roll your ankles and "air walk", it still works the muscles and gets your blood flowing. Once the weight starts coming off you'll feel much better and can increase it. Good luck with your surgery, hope you have a quick and smooth recovery.

anything counts. in the hospital I started off just going to the end of the hall. My doctor had me push a wheelchair for balance and in case I need to rest or be pushed back to my room. By the second day I was able to make it from 1 end of the hall and back again. When I got home I walked to the end of my court and back (my grandmother was out walking me). Now 115lbs lighter I walk 2-2.5 miles, and have started adding small bits of jogging. It gets easier and even if you are just getting up to go to the bathroom it is getting the blood moving.

It's never too early to develop good habits. My nemesis, the elliptical, have been going head to head again and I will be victorious!!
