I just like to soak them in Water for several hours, add a splash of flavour, and drink.

Apparently, according to several members of my family, that just makes me plain weird ;)

Not weird, just different. I do that, too.

I mix chia seeds in my protein shakes.

What are they and what do they do?

They are the seeds of the chia plant. Remember the "chia pet"?

They are considered a superfood and are very high in antioxidants. However their primary purpose for us is to control constipation. They absorb Water & retain it all the way through the digestive track. And they are high Fiber.

What is the botanical name for chia seeds? I have something called BenVia Gold which is salvia hispanica. Could this be the same thing?

Same thing.

Thank you O.T.R. sleever. You just saved me a bunch of money. :)

How much of the chia seeds do you put in a shake?

I put in about a tablespoon.

I do 2 tbs in 16 oz of liquid.
