Surgery is October 30th and I don't have a pre op diet well except for the day before like many that I'm seeing on here so my question is why is it different with the same surgery

Me either, my surgery is tomorrow and I am on full liquids today but that was it. Don't get me wrong, I was relieved, but it sparks my curiosity as well.

i have a friend that had the sleeve done in the US and only did a liquid diet the day before. That is what her doctor had her do. I think it is different with every doctor. the goal of pre op diets is to shrink your liver.

I was on the Atkins diet for a week. Eat whatever I wanted with high Protein & low carbs. The next week was liquids then the night before diet. I didn't go through months of waiting only two weeks then the surgery. I only lost 5 pounds before my surgery. Maybe your doc didn't put you on a diet is because you have a lower BMI. I had a very high BMI.

There are SO many differences among surgeons! I was one of the few here who also had no pre-op diet. Just nothing to eat or drink after 11pm the night before surgery!

And there are any number of post-op diets, too. You just have to choose a surgeon you trust completely and follow his/her orders.

Good luck!

I asked my surgeon that question and it is based on your BMI. Which tells me- the more you need to lose the more likely you have to do a pre-op diet. I didn't have to do anything before surgery except stop eating at 11:00pm the night before.

Yeah my bmi is 40.3 and my doc only wants me to lose 5 pounds. So it really does depend on how much extra weight you have.

I'm not sure even how much weight one needs to lose is the reasoning. I need to lose about 100 pounds and I had no pre-op diet at all! Just a difference in surgeon's approaches.

My BMI is at 48 and I do no have to do a pre op diet. I am choosing to do a pre op diet, however my doc does not require. The only instructions I was give was to start tappering down on the food I eat the closer I get to surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
