Saving Up

So, I bought me a little lock box the other day so I can start saving up for the surgery. Seems like its going to take forever, but every day I get a little closer! :) I live here in Texas, so my family feels more comfortable if I go to Dr. Alvarez. He seems like an awesome doctor and I've heard lots of great reviews on him, but it's going to take twice as long to come up with the money to go to him. :( I know surgery isn't something you should take lightly and I shouldn't just go to someone for the best deal or whatever. I've also read others who have went to doctors much cheaper in Tijuana and they are doing just fine. I just don't know what to do! Lol

  • No ma'am. I don't have insurance. My company offers it, but the deductible is insane, that's why I never enrolled in it. The deductible would be $5,000, so I'm just gonna self pay and go to Mexico! Lo

  • Not that I would encourage aquiring debt, but one option is to finance the cost of the surgery so you can have it sooner. I know for me, there was no way I was gonna wait longer than I had to. We di

I gotta jump in on this one LOL I am an operating room nurse with great insurance except it will not cover ANYTHING weight loss related!! can you imagine?! in this day and age? LOL so I am going to Mexico with Dr Ponce next month. It costs 5500 and I am financing about 4000 because I didn't want to wait any longer to change my life and better my health. Also I just bought my first house this year so my savings basically all went into closing this house. Anyway I know I can work extra here and there or use a tax refund to hopefully pay it off sooner than the 3 yrs they gave me. Honestly I believe this is a smart move for me. At work I see (on a daily basis) what strokes and heart attacks and diabetes do to people.. I'm done! Basically it is SO worth it to me to pay crappy interest if it means I can do this right away.

I'm not suggesting that everyone should just run out and take out a loan for this.. but for ME it was a valid option and I'm grateful the option was there! :)

I was going to wait until I saved money luckly I got a promo offer 0% apr from my credit card. Funny thing is that I had activate promo by 10/08/2012 that's date wanted to have my wls. I have the money ready and I will just try to pay my bal it before my promo expires.

Wow! Lol that's awesome! I wish that would happen for me :)

My surgery is with Dr Alvarez on 10/8, and I am paying half and financing half. His cash price is 8700 and Full financing is 9150. They explained that if you split it somehow... add 4.99% to the financed portion, add the two together and that is your total cost of surgery. I used the financing thru his website, and they base your interest rate off your credit. Luckily my husband has perfect credit, and mine has improved substantially over the last several years, so it was decent. Other than our house, we are pretty debt free, so I don't mind financing it. I just don't want to wait any longer.

Good for you for taking control of your health. Wish I was in Texas to get some hair TLC and hook you up with a big tip!

Sounds like you may be someone who gets an IRS refund- money back- perhaps if you can bank $2500 by February and get a $2500 return early next year.... you can have the sleeve in 6 months! :)

That's actually a great idea! As a single mom I bank about 6K back on my taxes... I'm already sleeved, but I could use mine for plastics. Thanks!
