Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Let's get to know each other before our surgery...I'll go first. :)

My name is Amy (37 years old). I live in central FL with my husband and two kids, 3 yo DS and 4.5 yo DD. I work in IT doing technical writing and operational readiness. I love photography and have a small side business, and when I'm thinner, I really enjoy running and spinning.

I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 198 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional vomit and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked, which caused a slip.

I got a complete unfill in early January. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills. But then my band developed a leak and slipped once again. Since the surgeon I was seeing was less than helpful, I found a new surgeon, Dr. Domkowski, who finally treated me without acting like I was crazy, as my last surgeon did. Based on his recommendations and test results, we decided to do the removal and sleeve in two separate surgeries.

Dr. D removed my band on August 3, 2012. Because of the extent of damage done by the band, including scarring and pulling the fundus through the diaphragm, I am waiting around four months to be sleeved. I'd love to be banded on November 25, which would have been the three year anniversary of my band.

I've gained about 70 lbs since December. Sigh. The good news is my surgeon is not at all concerned about my weight gain. He is 100% convinced that I'll lose it all once I'm sleeved, since I was so successful with the band. I'm a bit of a goody two-shoes, and I followed the rules to a "T", and I intend to do the same with the sleeve.

I hope the next four months fly by!

I'm exactly 1 week out today, I posted this in another thread but wanted to post here. I ordered a new scale and it came today. I haven't weighed in at all since surgery. I got on the scale today and OMG 339 which means I'm 20lbs down from surgery! OMG! I may have been a few lbs lighter right before surgery because they didn't weigh me the morning of but a few days prior and I was 359 and I didn't have a pre op diet, but still HOLY CRAP! 40lbs all together including pre op weight loss! Any regrets I may have had initially are GONE! I haven't been this weight since 2008 and it's very emotional for me because all I did the last 4 years was work to just get into the 330's range and couldn't- and in ONE WEEK with VSG I have!!

All you who still haven't been sleeved this is the best decision! It will be hard, but its worth it! I have not one regret today!

Fantastic!! I couldn't believe the 20 lbs loss either. I know the weight loss will slow down eventually, but this sure is fun.

Congrats!

I was sleeved on the 12th. Did 10 day liquid preop and as of today down 30 lbs. I can hardly believe it. I wake up every morning grateful for my sleeve and saying thank God I dont have to be fat anymore!

Got home from the hospital after being sleeved on Monday. I felt great but did stay an extra night Due to them doing the leak test so late which made me super nauseous. I was actually very great full for the extra night of rest. Having 3 kids at home I knew it would be hard. I did make the mistake of weighing myself as soon as I got home. I was UP 8 lbs. please tell me this is normal!!! I am having a REALLY hard time getting liquids down, every sip hurts :(

I think I am over the initial carb withdrawal. Feeling better than yesterday. I am working a 12 hour shift tomorrow and Friday. I just hope I'm not starving halfway through my shift. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

I'm having a bad day today. I couldn't get any protein in other than chicken broth. I tried the unjury chicken broth and just couldn't stomach it. I'm so wipped out and i have no energy. I feel a little loopy. Good news is there is no fever or pain, except a little in my incisions.Hope tomorrow is better.

That is just soooooooooooooooooooooo AWESOME!! so happy for you. Keep up the good work!

I was sleeved Nov 5. Lost about 20 lb during the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. When i weighed in at my 2 week post-op appt I had only lost 3 more lb :/ And my blood pressure has been much higher than usual. I'm hopeful things will turn around!

Best of luck! I know it will go good!

Thanks BG...it went very well! Outside of the gas pains I'm really feeling wonderful!

Just attended my nutrition class and got my pre-op diet food. Surgery is next Monday' date=' so only one week pre-op. Doc has me on post op plan of 1week clear liquids, 3 weeks purée and 8 weeks soft. I'm excited to get this journey started![/quote']

And you will be great at it! Congratulations and know we are all here for you!

I know how you feel.... I felt the same way yesterday.... No energy, totally wiped out. I was getting sad and frustrated. The best I can say for us both is it will get better.... And I bet both of us feel fantastic in a few weeks!!!

I just completed day 1 of the preop diet. I'm hungry and have a headache. I'm keep telling myself I'm in the homestretch. My NUT said this would be the hardest part of the journey. I certainly hope so. Chicken broth isn't so bad, but too much of a good thing is still too much.

Two days post-op here. My belly is gurgling and trying my best to manage my pain. They weren't kidding when they said one side hurts more than another. It's e right side for me. Oh well.

Happy thanksgiving everyone. Sleeved or still waiting...I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Join the club!!!! I'm 6days pre op and the pain wend from strong to mild as the days go by.
