Gaining Weight Rapidly!

I've gained 7 pounds in 5 days. I'm feeling awful. I don't understand how this could possibly happen. I know I have to eat 3500 calories in addition to those I burn to gain a pound. I am NOT eating enough to gain 7 pounds. I'm bloated and feeling miserable. I track my food on myfitnesspal and yes I eat sweets occasionally but 7 pounds???!!!! Normally I eat 1800-2300 calories per day. Any thoughts? Oh, I don't know if it's related but in addition to being bloated, I'm burping.

Before surgery, I've seen my weight go up 5 lbs from one day to the next because of a high sodium day. Usually, if I drank water & watched my sodium it would be back down those 5 lbs within a day

1800 per day sounds kind of high to me.

  • Wondering - Sorry if my post upset you that was not at all my intention. That just seems like a massive amount of calories for a sleever. My doctor advised me that calorie intake would have to be 100

How in the world do you fit 2300 calories in a sleeved tummy? I only ask because I eat around 1400-1600 a day without currently, and that is what got me to where I need to be sleeved!

wow, really? I ate 1200-1800 per day and made goal in 8.5 months. When I would eat less than 1200 I would not lose. Its quite easy to eat that much, trust me.... Pre-op however I would eat 3000 cals per day minimum

Hi everyone. Just wanted to check in and let you know that y'all were right. Water weight gain. By Tuesday I was back down the whole 7 pounds. I just had to drink more water and watch my sodium intake. Thanks everyone :)

Awesome!! Water weight is semi easy to fix so that's a good thing!

Glad it resolved itself! For the record, I had surgery the same week as you and am eating at least 1200 cals/day (sometimes a bit more) and losing very slowly - currently in a stall because I've dropped down on my exercising. I think 1600-1800 cals will end up being close to my maintenance calories with regular exercise, so that's definitely not too off-base.

It sounds like you were "not going" and that caused some water retention. It sure does it to me. Drinking more water and some fiber certainly helps.
