Starting Preop Diet And Freaking Out!

Recommended Posts

I'm seriously so nervous! I have to do a 2 week diet of Protein Shakes, broth, sf Popsicles and sf Jello. I've never been good at dieting (duh! Or I wouldn't be here) and I'm so afraid of screwing up. :(

Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as journey to a new you....

I won't lie. The pre-op diet is the toughest thing to do, but the rewards are SO worth it! You'll see weight loss, feel better, and be better prepared to follow the post-op diet. It also helps to start detoxing your body from caffeine and sugar so that those issues are out of the way before surgery.

Hang tough! You can and will do this!!

Good luck!! We're keeping a spot on the loser's bench warm for you!

I am still doing my preop diet of no carbs and fat. It is hard I will admit and there have been times that I just wanted to give up and eat a cheeseburger but I know that come Monday, I will be headed for a new me and that is what keeps my spirits up. I know, easier said than done but seriously, it can help.

Hang in there! Today is Day 3 for me. I lost 7 pounds when i weighed on Day 2. Haven't weighed myself yet today but know I will have lost more. It's certainly torture. I have had a lot of beef and chicken broth, Decaf coffee, sf Popsicles, diet lemonade from chickfila (YUM!). I'm getting sick of the vanilla and chocolate Protein shakes, though. I may have to go look for some more clear/light Protein drinks because these are getting nasty fast. :-)

My motivation not to cheat is that I want a safer surgery. And if I eat I'm sure the surgeon will see it in my stomach! I saved some people's before/after pics on my phone and have been looking at those when I feel discouraged.

Good luck & stay in touch. What's your surgery date? Mine is 4/20.

Felicity, try adding some sugar-free flavoring to your Protein shakes. You can find many recipes in the food forum on this site. For example: adding cinnamon to my vanilla shake made it taste like eggnog. Or try going to eggface.com for various recipes.< /p>

MrsNate.....keep trying and keep your eye on the goal. If you fall off of the wagon, don't beat yourself up, just make sure that it doesn't happen again. Be a bit more diligent in your last few days. Being healthy for your surgery is the most important thing ever. A healthy pre-op diet will create a healthy post-op recovery.

And, as my good friend Lissa said, it does get better.....we've all been through it.

You guys are so great! Knowing I'm not alone helps a lot. I'm worried about getting sick of chocolate and vanilla too. I went to The Vitamin Shoppe and bought a few nectar samples do hopefully that will help. My surgery is April 27 and I'm nervous and excited! Great tip about the before and after pics...I'm so gonna do that with my phone for motivation!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
