Tmi Question Regarding Nipples

I had VSG 4 months ago...prior to surgery I never had regular periods.

I lost 42 lbs prior to surgery, and have now lost another 46 lbs, so 88 lbs so far all together.

Since surgery I have had regular monthly periods (this is awesome since it has been 10 years or more since it was last regular!), but starting 3 months ago, a week or so before my period, I seem to get horribly sore nipples. Excruciating sore.

Heating pad, and hot baths seem to help with the pain. But I was wondering if anyone has experienced this...

I haven't a clue. Have you talked to your gynecologist? Some people have found that estrogen (released from the fat as we lose weight) can cause breast tenderness. To have it localized in the nipple is not something I have heard of.

I always have breast/nipple tenderness around my period! It's actually very normal and nothing to worry about, it's your hormones! Joy huh?

Sore nipples is a very normal sign of an impending period. Also an early sign of pregnancy. That is how I knew I was pregnant the last two times before the tests would even register a positive. Hormones are wonderdul - natures little warning signs. :-)

When I'm pregnant my nipples hurt soooo bad it's unbearable. I cannot even chance getting cold - it feels like someone's cutting them off with a dull razor. It has lasted the entire duration of my last 2 pregnancies & still is uncomfortable when its cold. I think its hormones but my gyno said use a heating pad or try nipple creams used during breastfeeding, but the cream didn't help me. Good luck....I know it sucks!!

On another not.....whooohoooo on your weight loss!!!!!

thanks everyone.

Kayte - that's exactly what it feels like!

I really don't think I am pregnant (have had some issues in that department)

and its not really good timing for that to happen anyhow - only 4 months post op.

I will see what happens next week I guess. It seems to have eased up...but it was a good 3 days of horrible pain. And the heating pad seemed to help, aswell as hot baths.
